Point Mugu to Santa Barbara, CA and back

Wednesday February 7, 2007

6:03pm  Man, I haven't made any entries today at all. Carol and I got into a big argument this morning about me wanting to leave again. We went to the Welfare Office this morning and I got a new foodstamps card. Then we journeyed on to Santa Barbara to get weed, as usual. That's where we are right now and we just rear-ended an Astrovan trying to get on 101. It's got a Darwin fish on the back. We don't have insurance. Carol's got a fake document. I don't know what's going to happen. Fuckin'-A.

6:31pm  Let me make an update. As our luck would have it right when we hit the van there was a tow-truck right behind us. He saw us rear-end the van. He immediately pulled over too, just to see if he could be of any assistance. Well, at that very moment Carol was trying to convince the old man we hit not to call the cops. The guy was just about to when the tow-truck guy walked up. He offered help and the guy askd him, "Should I call the police?" Luckily, the tow-truck guy said, "Nah, it's pretty minor and nobody's hurt. All you have to do is exchange information." They traded information. The cops never came! Carol gave them completely fake information. She doesn't have insurance on this car at all. She gave them the wrong name, wrong phone number, everything.

They left and we are trying to leave. The car is overheating right after we start going though. So we are stuck in Santa Barbara now. Carol and Travis want to try and plug the leaks in the radiator. I have no idea how we are going to do that. It just happened and I haven't even gotten out of the passenger seat to look at it or anything, because I'm not that mechanically-inclined with cars and Carol is in a bad mood. I'll probably just get in the way if I get out, so I'm just going to stay in the seat.

6:55pm  Well, we were able to run the car real hot and got to this covered parking of this hotel. Upon closer inspection Army Medic Travis found a total of three punctures in the radiator. Hmm, how the hell are we going to plug those holes. We all did inventory-check in the car and I had a tube of crazy glue. Lucky I had it. Travis grabbed the crazy glue and a plastic grocery bag and thought for a second. He grabbed a coat hanger and diligently worked a little crazy glue and pieces of plastic bag into all three holes. Then I walked off to State Street. I was aiming for the Pep Boys to see if I could manifest some radiator sealant.

7:53pm  Brad, at the Pep Boys on State Street hooked me up with a two dollar radiator sealant thing to see if we can fix the car. I appreciate it, Brad. Everybody gets credit.

8:28pm  Robin gave me a cigarette on State Street in Santa Barbara. I appreciate it, Robin. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

9:08pm  Jan, with beautiful dreadlocks, he hooked me up with a cigarette. Everybody gets credit. With his friend Mianté.

9:20am  Jil just volunteered me a whole pack of cigarettes. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

I walked back and we added the sealant. Oh yeah, this one guy working at the hotel was very helpful. We had asked him if he had a flashlight when we first pulled in. He said no but soon came back with his ultra-bright bike light which we were able to use to operate on the car. This dude even brought us out coffee. We put the sealant in and waited a while. We filled up the radiator with water and presto! The temperature gauge kept cool! Behold the McGeyver shit Travis just pulled off. We're taking off now!

We just drove all the way back to Thornhill Broome and the radiator is holding perfectly. Like magic.

Next day..
