Thursday February 26, 2009

7:22am  I got to the end of my tape last night so I lost a little history. I got off the bus at the Safeway. I walked inside to use the restroom then I figured I could pee outside somewhere, so I walked out of the store again. I walked a little more and then it hit me, I forgot I had to take a shit so I went back inside and walked to the bathroom at the back of the store. When I got out I walked down aisle 4 towards the front and spotted these street kids, this guy and his girlfriend wearing backpacks and stuff. We said what’s up and they told me they knew about a campsite nearby and if I wanted to I could crash with them. How perfect, huh? They were in the grocery store looking to buy some shower curtains so they could make a shelter. It’s supposed to pour tonight. Hehe, have stuff to make a shelter with.
All three of us climbed the steps up this hill and secured our campspot. Sean, Jessie

and I went to work erecting our shelter.

Remember I have a huge ten by twelve tarp. Sean strung my rope between two trees and the tarp folded over it perfectly making a very spacious room underneath. I put down my military rain poncho and Sean carries a portable floor for him and Jessie too. Sean is 27 and Jessie 19.

Sean also carries a plastic shovel which I borrowed to take a shit with this morning. My back is really hurting. I wish I could stash my stuff in these woods, but everyone advises me against stashing anything in this town.

8:32am  All packed up and leaving.

                   View

8:43am  Pat was nice enough to give this guy at Safeway a dollar for food for his dog. I'm sure he appreciates it. Everybody gets credit.

8:45am  I am standing in front of the Safeway telling, what was your name? Linda Lou

my story. I told her my mission objectives and she just volunteered me this beautiful piece of jewelry, this necklace. I really appreciate it, Linda. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.

8:56am  We just got on the N-Juda train. We are over here by the college, I think. When the train pulled up we just got on through the back doors. Fuck the system! We're over here by some college, I think. We're on a marijuana mission. We got a little resinated this morning at the camp, but now we are all out.

Directions to the library. Jessie: "Alright, you're going to go to the McDonald's. You're going to go a block after McDonald's, then you're going to turn a block down, left. East, North, East."

9:35am  I've had a good morning so far. I'm walking to the library right now with Jessie. I'd take a couple pictures, but my cameras dead. I hope I'll be able to charge them at the library somehow.

10:22am  I just got out of the library. I charged my batteries for like half an hour. Hehe, I'm stupid. I wasn't sure how to use the computers at first. I got a guest pass. They have two half-hour terminals and two don't need a reservation fifteen minutes terminals. I saw a table that had a sign to sit there for waiting for the fifteen minute computers. I didn't see a table that was marked for the thirty minute ones, so I just waited until the guy on the computer's timer was up and just sat down and logged in with my guest pass. About ten minutes later Jessie walks up to me and asks me if I'm going to be on the computer for a long time. She was upset because she had made a reservation but there wasn't a computer available. I told her I was going to be on it for twenty more minutes. She said okay and left. Stupid-me, I was on her computer. I thought the thirty minute computers were first come, first serve, like the fifteen minute ones. I totally stole Jessie's reservation. Next time I see her I will apologize.

I'm going to go hit up Zona Rosa Mexican food on Haight.

Let's see what they tell me.

12:30pm  Carlos y la gente amable en Zona Rosa me estan dando comida. Muchisimas gracias. Todo el mundo recibe credito..

Hell yeah, welcome to San Francisco. I got hooked up at Zona Rosa.

Ryan hooked me up with a cigarette in front of Amoeba. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

Ryan: "Terrance Mckenna. Time Wave Zero. Look that up."

What were your names again? Coleman, Victor and Katie are passing out free candy at Hippie Hill. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.

4:59pm  I've been sitting down all day on Hippie Hill resting my back and not walking around. I got to tell my story a couple times. I had fun, I guess. I'm going to walk to Haight Street and post up and distribute world peace. Man, my back is killing me. I feel all disabled.

Kids I told my story to.

All day long people have been recognizing me. Like this one guy I met in Ventura and I also ran into Matt,

the bum I met in Santa Ana that I went to Venice Beach with.

I just had an awesome presentation with beautiful Danielle.

I took her picture. It's the one with the sun in the background.

Sarah gave me a cigarette on Haight Street. I appreciate it, Sarah. Everybody gets credit.

Matt gave me a cigarette in front of McDonald's. I appreciate it, bro. Everybody gets credit.

7:14pm  I am walking away from Haight now. I'm cold tonight. I am freezing. I can't wait to get in my sleeping bag. I am not hungry right now, but I'll probably be hungry before I go to bed. I want to rid the bus down Fulton again and go crash at the same spot in the woods I camped at last night with Jessie and Sean, even thought it's not supposed to rain. I'll go stand in front of the Safeway and wait for someone to give me some food. It sucks that my back hurts because I have to climb that big hill.

I walked up this big hill all the way to Schrader/Parker, where the #5 runs.

I scored a courtesy ride and I just landed at the Safeway I was at last night. I'm just going to stand here and hopefully I'll get hooked up. Please LOVE, feed my belly.

Roy hooked me up with a cigarette in front of the Safeway. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

9:00pm  The security guard piglet is running me off. Nobody wants world peace! Thanks for making my story so interesting. That's a good little slave.

This huge hill is going to be a bitch to climb with my sore back.

9:03pm  I was in excruciating pain limping up the hill. I successfully located the campspot, which Sean and Jessie dubbed The Treehouse. It's not supposed to rain or nothing, but I'll sleep with my tarp over me just in case.

Man, I am hungry as fuck. All I had to eat today was a burrito from Zona Rosa. I also had a muffin and a chocolate bar when those girls were giving out free snacks at Hippie Hill. There's another taqueria on Haight I can hit up tomorrow.

Next day..
