San Jose to Fremont to Antioch, CA

Friday April 17, 2009

7:57am  I just woke up. I got eight and a half hours of sleep. I got lots of sleep. I'm going to catch the light rail(for free) and go to breakfast.

8:25am  I am all loaded up and leaving. I crashed behind my trusty root-wall.

8:35am  I walked to the light rail station. There's some cops right there. I'm just going to get on anyway.

     8:50am  Leaving on the train.

9:18am  I got off on Santa Clara.

9:50am  I am in the fourth floor bathroom taking a shit at the library. I got a guest pass and I'm going to check my email. I don't know how long I'm going to stay in San Jose this time. I'll be damned if I pay light rail fare again.

12:30pm  About half an hour ago I got out of the library. I came outside and ate a sandwich. I want some weed.

I got done with my internet session. I talked a lot of IRC, using mibbit.com. I just bullshitted on the 420 server. I'm walking to St. Joseph's to see if they have any food.

12:48pm  I forgot to tell you, I left the library and I went to Cesar Chavez Park and bought a little bit of weed off a bum. I came to 1st Street and I'm going to try and tell my story to some people, because I got high.

1:00pm  Jesse and Sarah, they stopped to listen to my story and Jesse volunteered me a cigarette. After the story though. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.

1:52pm  I didn't mention, those two kids invited me to Subway and bought me two sandwiches! Thanks for feeding the peace machine, guys. I have plenty of walking fuel now.

2:44pm  I came to the MLK Library. I'm going to check my email and bullshit on IRC.

4:30pm  This nice guy wearing an aviation uniform gave me a cigarette for free. I tried to pay him.

5:22pm  The nice driver driving the 181 hooked me up, he let me ride for only $1.10. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

I just got this hair up my ass to leave town. I got bored with nothing to do. I need to get moving, I felt. I had been waiting for an email back from Olivia, but she never answered, so I'm leaving.

6:00pm  I am in Fremont, the Bart Station.

6:04pm  Iggy hooked me up with a couple cigarettes at the Bart station in Fremont. I appreciate it, brother. I've got a lighter. Everybody gets credit.

6:08pm  Joe hooked me up with a dollar, wait, what was your name? Joe and Derrick hooked me up with a dollar for the train. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit.

6:42pm  I just stood in front of the Bart station and in no-time I got two dollars right off the bat and right now this dude gave me a ticket with $1.50 on it, so that's enough to buy a ticket. I am on the train now. It leaves in like five minutes. I am going all the way to Oakland, I think.

7:30pm  The whole time I thought I was going to ride the Bart to...I only paid enough to get to San Leandro, but fuck it, I'm staying on. I'm going North. I was going to ride it all the way to Richmond, but there's a big body of water and I have to go East a little. There's another train I can get off that branches off and goes a little North East to Pittsburg. Right when I realized that Macarthur was the next stop and it was the last stop to transfer to the other train. I had secured my pack to a pole on the train with a shoestring I had and it was tied pretty tight so I had to cut it with my Leatherman quick, all in order to hop off the train on time before the doors closed. I made it though. I'm waiting for the train now. I don't know what's going to happen when I get to the end. I'm hoping I'll be able to just walk out the emergency door. I am a bonafide fare-evader. I was going to tell them that I fell asleep, but that wouldn't make too much sense after transferring to another train. We'll see what happens. Fuck the system!

                   Map

8:06pm  Just got off the train at Pittsburg/Bay Point. Let's see what happens. I'll just tell them that I lost my ticket.

I walked up to the exit gates and quickly saw the sign that said you have to pay $4.90 for a lost ticket. I told the lady I didn't have any money and she said I had to deal with that however I could. I walked around for a bit and when she wasn't looking I just marched out through the emergency door. I was sure to give the peace sign to the other girl working inside. I just waltzed right out of there and they didn't yell or nothing. Home free! I don't give a fuck anyway. Give me a ticket. I'm collecting them.

8:19pm  Dennis was nice enough to help me out with bus fare to get me closer to Sacramento. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

I had made friends with Dennis before the bus came and asked him if there was any way to get over the water on the bus. He told me no, but that I could catch the bus to the Antioch Bridge. He wasn't sure if I could walk over it or not. I told him I was going to ask for a courtesy ride and when the driver told me no he helped me out.

9:00pm  I just got off over by the bridge in Antioch. I'm going to go find me some tobacco at a gas station.

9:11pm  Sandra over here at the gas station in Antioch, she was trying to find the hole to stick the oil dipstick in. She didn't have a flashlight and was trying to find it with a lighter. I pulled out my little blue keychain diode that I have and found it for her real quick. She gave me a cigarette. I appreciate it. She said that she's a psychopath and she was babysitted by a serial killer. She's going to email me her book.

9:36pm  Victor, another Victor, he works at the AM/PM here, he listened to a lot of my story while he smoking a cigarette. He told me about some pier I could crash underneath at the end of the street here. I asked him for a cigarette for camp and he gave me four of them! Thanks a lot.

10:25pm  I already made my camp. I walked the street to the pier. That guy Victor was all smiles during my story. I came to the fishing pier they have here that's open 24 hours. Underneath the pier are all these big boulders and impossible to sleep on. I walked around and I found a concealed spot way under the highway. The same road that bridges out and goes over the water. I'll take pictures in the morning.

Next day..
