Kerby to Selma to Grant's Pass, OR

Thursday June 4, 2009

6:53am  Let's see, I went to bed around nine last night. I woke up like three hours later at like two in the morning and had trouble falling back asleep. It rained in the morning and I stayed completely dry. My lean-to worked great.

11:00am  It has still not stopped raining. I have not moved from camp. I am perfectly concealed. I could stay here all day if I needed to.

What peacefulness I am experiencing at my camp today. I've smoked like three or four joints today already. I'm just chilling at my camp staying dry. I've got food, I've got rolls, I have peanut butter. I am all happy and free and tranquil. Everybody should do what I do.

I am really impressed with my lean-to I pulled out my ass last night.

12:22pm  All packed up and leaving finally. Now when I finished packing it started drizzling again. I'm going to walk to the nearest cover and smoke.

1:58pm  About ten minutes ago I stopped at Reeve's Creek Road for my first rest. I'm going to thumb it here. I took a shit down the slope a little bit. I just copped a squat and took a shit. I'm going to thumb it here, eat and rest.

2:15pm  I am leaving Reeve's Creek after a long, productive break. I did a lot of stuff, I took a shit and let the sun dry out all my tarps. I smoked some weed and ate some breakfast. I'm walking now. Ugh, I just saw a transit bus go by. I've could've ridden the bus from Kerby. I've got money too. I've got fifteen bucks.

     2:26pm  Passing Eight Dollar Road.

2:57pm  In no-time, Cindy pulled over for me. She gave me a ride to Selma. I'm at the Ray's Food Place. I appreciate it, Cindy. Can I take a picture? I don't have to.

5:02pm  Man, right when it started getting a little cold. I saw these two dudes across the street from the Ray's. I offered to smoke them out and we went underneath this bridge and smoked. They wouldn't listen to my story at all. Afterwards I went to try and thumb it again eating some bagels and cream cheese. Bud pulled over for me. He's giving me a ride to Grant's Pass. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot, man.

5:27pm  Hell yeah, I got a badass ride from Bud wearing a tie-dye shirt. He was all digging my story. He's a grower and stuff. He told me that he went to Vietnam and when he came back that marijuana was the thing that balanced him out again.

5:43pm  All loaded up and walking into town. I'll walk East Park Street.

6:34pm  I've been lacking entries lately. I couldn't find the downtown area, so I just walked the highway. I saw a gas station. See, I've been hunting around for a new pocket atlas and no stores have them. I feel lost without one. I got to look at a map at a store earlier and have decided to go a little South to I5. I need to check out Ashland. So many people have told me that I need to go there. Plus, I'll be closer to Peg and that might improve the chances of her coming to visit me, teehee. I'll meet her in Ashland.

6:51pm  dontignorethedoor.com I'm walking towards I5 and this lady just pulled over in a white van, not for me, but she had a sticker on the back of her car.

7:22pm  I am still walking Grants Pass Parkway aiming for I5. Coming up on M street. I see a sign that says City Center Old Town. I must've passed up downtown. Maybe I should go give it another shot.

8:12pm  I had a long, relaxing smokebreak in front of this fountain. It's starting to get dark. I'm going to walk to I5. I'm sure there's gas stations there and I can go work my magic. I should find a place to camp and get a ride in the morning. I'm wearing my green marijuana top hat that I made at Marilyn's in Montague.

I layered up. It's getting a little chilly. I put on my camo cargo shorts that I just washed. I did my laundry not too long ago.

8:51pm  I walked Agness Avenue all the way to Grants Pass Parkway. Somebody told me there's a Walmart around here. I saw a Fred Meyer's. I am sure they'll have a pocket atlas at one of them.

9:18pm  I cannot believe they don't have pocket atlases at fucking Walmart, of all places! I doubt they'll have them at Fred Meyer's either. I'm not going over there, fuck it. I'll wait until I find one at a gas station somewhere.

11:04pm  I already found my camp over by the onramp by this cemetery. Bums have crashed here before. There's trash and beer bottles strewn about. I cleared out a space and put my military rain poncho down. I'll take pictures in the morning. At the AM/PM I ran into Michael, this older hippie dude. He smoked me out and pointed me in the right direction to find a camp.

Next day..
