My Ideal Society

In my ideal society, personal cars would not be allowed. The buses would be running 24 hours a day, every day, anywhere there is a residence. They would also come in 10-15 minute increments so if you miss one there's not a long wait for another one.

The only vehicles allowed on the road would be public vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks and police. We need that stuff. With the lack of traffic congestion, they could do their job much quicker.

What would pay for all these busses? Well think of it, if people didn't have to waste their money paying for car-related expenses(like car payments, insurance, maintenance, and gasoline) there would be a surplus of capital all around. People are paying out their ass for this "convenience" we call the automobile. It's like they're paying their hard-earned cash to speed up the end of mankind. Why do so many people fund the end of life as we know it by owning these death-machines?

Now there would be some exceptions. You could own/drive a car if you make your own car, out of scratch. Of course, it will need to meet strict emission standards. Imagine the individualism and expression this would bring, not to mention innovation.

Also, if you need to move you’ll need a vehicle. You would be permitted to rent a U-HAUL and drive it only while you move. The U-HAUL would of course run on propane or something cleaner than gasoline.

The bus-passes bought and fare paid could pay for this investment easily. Doesn't this sound like a win-win situation?

Now of course, if you live out in the country, where there isn't a modern public transit system, you need a car. A car in a rural area is a tool, especially pick-up trucks. Put it to work for you(quoting Chris Austin, architect).

Wouldn’t every aspect of people's lives improve if this idea was implemented? Just think of the repercussions that would be caused by eliminating personal vehicles. A lot of people think, “Oh well, I don’t care. We all gotta go sometime.” Why make it sooner than later?

Let's get the ball rolling people.

P.S. I have some great ideas of how to even improve public-vehicle emissions, ask me.
