Day four: 13.4 miles

Thursday August 21, 2008

5:09am  I don't think I got that much sleep. I'm going to take off walking soon. I'm really hungry.

5:48am  I'm walking the highway now. Let's see, last night I walked back to my camp and got maybe like an hour nap, probably less. I switched out to a new pair of socks. I am really amazed at how I brought exactly what I needed for this walk. I had brought five pairs of socks total. I just put on my last clean pair of socks, so I better get home today. I am walking in the right direction now.

6:19am  One mile to Highway 90. That'll be my first rest.

                   Random highway shots.

6:43am  Coming up on I90, the crossroads.

7:10am  Coming up on the Citgo, the EZ Mart on Big Mesa Drive. Hopefully they'll have a bathroom I can use there.

7:40am  I'm leaving. I was told I am only fifteen miles away from Bandera. That's awesome. I took a good smokebreak. I'm all stoned.

7:53am  Coming up on Marbach Road. Holy shit, man. I am almost there.

8:15am  I'm going to sit down and rest and take a smoke.

8:32am  I'm leaving from my break. I'm taking my time on Day Four. I took a longass break.

8:52am  I see a Walmart sign back there. Could that possibly be the Walmart on Culebra??

8:54am  Coming up on Potranco Road, I believe. There's a Walmart on the left. I'll take a picture.

9:08am  I'm over here by Calvary Hills Babtist Church. There's a Shell station up here.

9:15am  Coming up on Military Drive. I'm going to rest at the Shell.

9:38am  I had a good break at the Shell. I tried telling this beautiful cashier Dorian my story, but she got busy. She's got the website.

9:41am  I stopped and took a picture of this cross and flowers on the side of the road here. There's a balloon that says RIP DAD, 8-18-06.

     9:45am  Passing Kilmarnoch Lane.

10:00am  Coming up on Wiseman Boulevard.

10:03am  I'm taking another smokebreak. I'm getting lazy today.

                     Northwest Vista

                     Nasty Urban Sprawl.

10:52am  I'm coming up on the Culebra intersection and I am left aghast. I've never seen this place before. It is totally different than what it used to be like. The humans have totally invaded this land. Down with Babylon! Rape, I tell you! You name it, that store is here. Commercialization everywhere on this corner. You've got your Men's Wearhouse, Target, JC Pennies, Ross, Best Buy, Office Max, Lane Bryant, Petsmart, Olive Garden, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, HEB, Party
City, Security Service, and much, much more.

And in the very back you have the Walmart looming.

     11:01am  Walked over Culebra.

11:17am  I've been kind of hoping I would get to the finish line around noon, so I could tell people it only took me three and a half days to walk Loop 1604. I could get there at twelve thirty and still tell people that. I'm hungry, but I don't want to stop and eat. Luckily, I just looked in my backpack and I have another trail mix bar left. I can eat this while I walk.

11:20am  Sweet, change of plans. I was walking some more and I see a sign that says TACOS. I walked over and there's a taco cart here. Chinco tacos. I'm going to go hit them up. "I'm walking around the loop for world peace. Hook me up."

Sweet, scoring at the taqueria. I'm going to log his generosity and give him my website.

11:24am  Eduardo y Alejandro me dieron comida en Chinco's para my camino. Se los agradezco, seƱores. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.

11:47am  I got hooked up at the taco cart and I went and sat in the shade and ate.

                     Loop 1604.

                     Passing Shaenfield Road.

I'm coming up to the last stretch. I took a picture now. You can see the Valero on Braun Road in the distance.

     12:16pm  Passing Guilbeau, New Guilbeau.

12:25pm  About to pass Braun Road. I could turn here and cut to my mom's house. Screw it, I have to stay consistent. Bandera to Bandera. Just like Loop 410. I'm going to go stand at the bus stop I started this walk from. I have to hotfoot it because the bus should be coming pretty soon.

12:41pm  I made a mad-dash over to Bandera. See, the bus is over by my mom's house at 48 of the hour, coming this way. Bandera Pointe is the end of the line, so it'll be here a little after 48. I am hurrying because I don't want to miss the bus.

12:45pm  Sweet, I was walking and saw the bus coming. He's going to wait for me.

12:55pm  The nice 608 driver is hooking me up. I appreciate it, brother. I'm going to go home and take a shower.

I remember Mr. Griego from not too long ago.

It's official. I just walked ninety four point four miles in three and a half days. From Bandera to Bandera.

1:09pm  I am glad to be home. My mom's not here.  I should take pictures of myself.

Check out the one shirt I wore all the way around the loop.

2:38pm  I had some more entries to my guestbook. Oh yeah, this pretty girl I met downtown the other day emailed me. Brandi. She's real cute.

4:55pm  I'm going to bed finally.

Next day..
