Newman to Gustine to San Jose to Gilroy, CA

Monday September 18, 2023

5:26am  I woke up in a cornrow at 3 in the morning.  I am contemplating what to do.  Should I get up and start walking?  I shouldn't be walking with my headlamp on.  I will probably get hassled by cops about my expired ID.  I left my shoes off last night and that's what woke me up, my cold toes.  I gathered up my stuff and dared to hoof it further south.  I stopped and took a smoke break in front of this factory.  I did an inventory-check to make sure I had all of my shit.  I put my wrist weights on and I hiked the opposite side of the cornfield.  I even walked along these railroad tracks for like half a mile.  I made it all the way to the gas station in Gustine.  That's where I am now.  The sun is going to come up soon.  I am in the McDonalds taking a shit.  From all the cookies I ate yesterday my shit was all runny.  It took a lot of wipes to deal with.  The McDonald's is connected to the Chevron.  When I first walked in I was granted access to the bathroom.  When I finished I walked through the Chevron and out the back door.  I noticed this Mexican lady looking at me, even opened the door to look outside at me.

6:18am Domiciano, me esta dando cinco dolares!  Te lo agradesco, seƱor.  Todo el mundo recibe credito.

I didn't ask that guy for anything.  I am just out here with my bags.  I logged his generosity in Spanish and at the last minute I ran up to his car to give him my blog and I noticed that lady who had been looking at ne earlier in his car.  I knew she had something to do with the five bucks.  Sweet, I can get me some cofee!  Awesome!  What a nice welcome to Gustine!  I am going to keep trying to thumb it South right here next to the Chevron.  Wish me luck.  Good day so far.

7:12am  In no-time Rashaun is being nice enough to give me a ride to the Bathrooms(Los Banos).  I have been warned about that place, hehe.  I appreciate it, everybody gets credit, thanks a lot.

7:36am  Hell yes, I am in Los Banos.  I got a little charge on my phone too.  Louie earlier had let me charge my phone too.  In his Tesla.

I think Louie dropped me off at the truckstop in Patterson.  I can't believe I didn't talk about this already, but I am typing this up October 4 and it's still pretty fresh in my memory.  At the Love's truckstop when I first got there I went to the bathroom and washed my hands.  In doing so my wedding ring slipped off.  I picked it out and set it on the counter behind the sink spout.  I finished rinsing my hands, dried them off and completely forgot about the ring.  Well, like two hours later I am outside trying to get a ride smoking a cigarette when I notice the ring missing!  I freak and text Tita on Word Feud.  It was her father's ring and had tons of sentimental value.  I felt terrible.
I walked in the truckstop and got the cashier's attention.  I told her I had lost my wedding ring in the bathroom a couple hours ago, if they had a lost and found.  She directed me to an employee desk in the back.  I walked up and asked the young male clerk if they had a lost an found, that I had left my wedding ring on the bathroom sink counter earlier.  He didn't answer and promptly turned around and went in a small room.  He handed it to me saying, "One of our employees was cleaning and noticed it.  Here you go.  I could not believe my luck!  I texted Julieta I GOT IT BACK!  Woohoo!  Thank you, LOVE!

9:05am  I am San Jose!  Even though it's a bit out of the way.  I had an awesome ride right now.  Jose I think.  He totally hooked me up!  He let me have this brand new utensil kit.  We had an awesome conversation.  He had lots of good stories to tell.  I should've recorded them.  He is a fellow head-injury survivor.  He knew BAMC like the back of his hand.  He used to be in the army.  So here I am in San Jose.  The sun is out and I am in full uniform.  Earlier, with the whole wedding ring thing, I went back and gave them a shirt.  I have been giving away shirts left and right.  Anyway, here I am un Gilroy, Highway 152 and Camino Arroyo.  I am not sure where I am.  Let me look at a map.   Argggg, I don't have all of me and Tita's texts because we chatted in WordFeud.

10:48am  I finally found, after walking around a lot, because it's in the same building as something else, I finally found a Starbucks.  I came here and charged my phone.  I had tried thumbing it on the onramp for about an hour with no luck.  I'm going to get some coffee and maybe some food somewhere.  It's cool I have cash from donations from people who gave me rides.

12:14pm  I ended my charging session at the Starbucks.  Gave out my blog to a couple of dudes.  I came back to the onramp.

1:27pm  Fuckin-a, I can't believe I tried for a whole hour trying to hitch in the wrong direction!  Instead of just thumbing I am hugging people in cars as they come near me.  I have my arms spread out and as the pass me I close them as if I am embracing them.  A lot of girls have smiled and stuff but nobody has stopped to pull over.  Then I got to thinking, fuck it, I think I can get all the way to LA on the City Transit from San Jose.  I should go find a transit center.

I was bored and I noticed all these cars backing up here close to the highwayt onramp at the stoplight.  I pulled out my HOOK A BROTHER UP sign and got random hookups and smokeouts!

3:18pm  Adrian hooked me up with some weed.  I am flying my sign over on San Ysidiro, by the onramp.  Someone gave me a vape pen earlier too.

5:04pm  I came to the 76.  Then I got the idea to go to the gas station and offer people shirts for a ride.  I was holding my thumb out to people with a shirt hanging underneath.

7:04pm

I gave even another shirt away.
