Midland to Monahans, TX

7:34am I just woke up. I got plenty of sleep.
9:52am I should make another update. I woke up in the field and it was all damp and mist was everywhere. I woke up, packed up and walked to the truck stop and spent two bucks for a dryer and layered down and dried off my stuff. I went to the McDonald’s to buy something to eat and saw it was raining outside. Crazy, it wasn’t raining before and I got plenty of sleep. Everything is wet outside. I’m lucky I got my stuff dried off in the dryer. I’m standing in the front. Oh yeah, that dude Michael I gave my sleeping bag liner to last night, he walked up to me and told me, “That sleeping bag you gave me kept me cozy warm last night. I’m really glad you gave it to me." He shook my hand. I told him I was glad it kept him warm. I’m always glad to be of service.
10:51am Julio just came up to me and gave me some fruit. He’s not going my way. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.
11:25am Primo me dio un dolar. Te lo agradesco, Primo. Todo el mundo recibe credito.
12:57pm Albert just volunteered me some money. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

I just did a big research of all my tapes in front of the Stripes gas station. I have all my history intact. I am taping over all the stuff I documented in Mullan. That’s before I got to Missoula, where I last updated my journal. I wanted to check to see if they sold any microcassette tapes at the truck stop. It’s doubtful.
In the middle of that last entry some guy pulled up in a truck and gave me some free coupons for some food at the Stripes. I didn’t get to log his generosity, but I gave him my website.
2:31pm I thought I was never going to get a ride. What was your name again? “Alex, just call me digger. He asked me which way I was going and I told him I would go either way on 20. He’s going to take me to Monahans and put me to work and get me a bus ticket. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.
4:42pm The coolest shit. I just got transported to Monahans, TX. It’s only like forty miles away from the truckstop, but I don’t care.
5:47pm I had a good little welcome to Monahans, TX. Before we came Alex and his uncle Teo had to stop and fix some guy’s two flats. He had run over a rim. After that we drove to Monahans to Alex’s tire shop. It’s right next to the highway. M&M Tire Service. He lives here with his two sons in a trailer. He dropped me off with his two sons Sean and Chris. 18 and 16 year olds. I just got through telling them my story in the trailer. They thought it was interesting. Sean has a song. He’s not going to sing it. He says he can’t do acapella.
“Dear Mr. President, I have something to say. Why is this country covered in graves? We watch these bombs fall and drop, empty parachutes, nothing left for the young man but his military suit. Families left behind and loved ones gone forever. Left to rot in hell or lost in a foreign desert. Dear Uncle Sam, look what’s happened now. The country you built is the one I tear down. We don’t need your wars, we don’t need your armies. We were not born for the headstones you’re carving. You don’t feel remorse, you don’t feel sorry. This country is torn and falls to anarchy. The Supreme Court is run by a bunch of cowards who run and hide at the fall of the twin towers. Then these borders come crashing down and the government is left to forever drown. All you can do is hand us a folded flag as the ones we love are buried with their dog-tags.”
8:04pm I’ve had a good night. I got hosted in Monahans. Right when we first got here Alex told me I could crash in this little travel trailer they had there. I've got my own room! Right now we just got back from the Huddle House Restaurant. Alex gave them a twenty dollar bill and told us to go eat. I had a Hudde Burger. I wonder what kind of work Alex is going to make me do. There’s a highway here that goes straight down to I10, to Fort Stockton. He said he might give me a ride there if I wanted to hitchhike. He did say a bus ticket so I’m going to stick around.
10:14pm I had a good little welcome here. I hung out with the boys and watched television for a couple of hours. We watched Adult Swim. We watched some other random movie I don’t know the name of but it had Ted Danson and Christian Slater. I’m going to go to sleep now. I’m tired. I’m going to do some work tomorrow, mow some grass or something. Maybe I’ll get a bus ticket. Maybe I’ll get a ride to Fort Stockton. I’m not sure.
