Yucaipa to Morongo to Desert Hot Springs, CA
Friday October 29, 2004
7:55am I woke up at 7:30am behind this dune out in the field the cop said I could crash at.
I slept on top of my poncho. The ground was all wet and smushy under my feet. Last night was just awesome.
8:32am I came outside and this guy in a wheelchair, James, came out and handed me a brownie! That's so awesome. Traveling food. Thank you, Love.
9:06am Naresh hooked me up with five dollars after hearing my story. I appreciate it, brother. Thanks for proving me right.
Some Indian guy who had seen me logging James' generosity came outside and asked me, "Oh, you have a recorder?" I told him, "Yeah, I'm living a book. Can I tell you about my mission after I smoke my cigarette?" I gave him my platform and the spirits part and in the end he gave me five dollars! Sweet, I've got money.
That Indian dude had tons of questions.
I'm giving everybody a big heaping helping of hope.
9:13am I'm walking down 14th Street to I10.
9:28am Walked to Oakland Road. Two exits to the highway.
9:33am I walked all the way over to the I10 East freeway entrance.
Right by this big pumpkin patch with all these big Christmas trees. There's a rest stop nearby but it says it's closed for repairs.
Everybody waves back in Yucaipa. Everybody. Even the old people.
I'm going to pull out my On My Way To Save The World sign out. Maybe I'll get a ride like that. Actually, I'm going to eat this brownie and smoke a cigarette and smoke some weed.
10:05am Oh yeah, I have to make my prayer to Love. Please Love, grant me a ride. Mobilize me. Please, I ask you.
10:27am I'm sitting here with my sign thumbing all the cars headed East. There's a little sign over there that says, "Yes on 71. Save lives with stem cells." That's bullshit. We need to stop messing with that stuff. The human body has the power to heal itself, damnit. We shouldn't be trying to play god like that.
10:35am Man, I am getting some awesome publicity here. Every single car gets the peace sign. The cars that don't stop for me, I mouth, "Thanks anyway," every time. Then all of a sudden this girl pulls up over by the pumpkin patch and unloads a TV camera and sets it up on a tripod. Some TV news reporter. The camera was pointing straight at me. I was right in front of it. "Perfect, I'm going to be on TV," I thought. When I saw her loading up the camera again in her truck, I walked over there and asked her if I could tell her my story. I just got my mission-objectives out, but she didn't have time to listen to me. I asked her to do me the favors too. She's going to tell all her friends, hopefully.
I'm everywhere.
Thank you, Love. Please reward me some more and give me a ride, hehe.

10:55am I was there all morning. Well, since 9:30 or so. Vicki pulled over. She said she had seen me walking down 14th Street. She's going to give me a ride to Cabazon. I appreciate it, Vicki. Everybody gets credit.
1:15pm Vicki and I are driving in the Morongo Indian Reservation. There's a cool building here. I want to take a picture of it. It's a new hotel.
Cool, cool.
Mountains.
I had some great publicity this morning and then I got hooked up with a ride to this Indian reservation. Sovereign Indian Nation. I'm at the truckstop here. Vicki told me that she'd stop by at six and if I was still here that she'd give me a ride to Palm Springs. It seems that I'm going to stay here until six then.
1:42pm I'm sitting here at this truckstop.
Some guy pulled up in a white truck and he offered me some water. Some Naya Blue bottled water. Thanks, brother.
2:05pm I wasted six dollars playing slots. I didn't win one time. That sucks. I came outside and I've got four hours to wait. I'm not going to ask people for rides. There's no trucks here.
2:30pm What I did to kill time was sewed my rainbow peace sign patch, that Kati had put last year on my old shorts that died in Socorro, on my blue mission-bag. There was a big hole. That guy who had given me the water gave them to me in a plastic bag. I looked inside and there was a banana and a dollar bill inside too!
6:02pm Whew, Vicki's here! She told me to hold on, she has to get gas. I'm going to tell her, "I am impressed with your integrity, not to mention your punctuality. You are a woman of your word."
6:50pm Vicki dropped me off in Desert Hot Springs at a truckstop. Palm Springs is a little South from here. She gave me two dollars so I can get me a snack. I appreciate it, Vicki.
7:00pm I'm at a Flying J again. I asked them if I could ask for rides and they told me no. I'll just stand in this little corner where they can't see me and ask truckers anyway.
7:05pm I wasn't asking for anything. This guy just ran up and gave me five dollars! Whoa, awesome. That's cool. Thanks for the blessing. Thanks for proving me right, guy. I didn't get his name. Some Mexican dude.
Please Love, let somebody give me a ride.
8:08pm I came in and watched TV in the TV room. There's something on the news about a Bin Laden tape. Shit's going down. It just happened, like pretty soon ago. He said that any country that does not attack Iraq won't get attacked. They said there's some chatter about an attack coinciding with the elections four days from now.
