Greenfield and walking to King City, CA
Friday March 20, 2009
6:20am I woke up a little bit before four. I'm all stoned. I smoked the last of my weed. I am almost to San Luis anyway. I still have to go through San Miguel, Paso Robles and Atascadero. I think I can catch the bus from Atascadero to San Luis.
Be sure to change "A life outside the box" to "A Purpose Driven Life."
When I talk about the bible and say it's two thousand years old..say "We need a new story. We need an update already. Times change."
7:30am Up and at 'em. Leaving the bush. I took a picture. I'm going to walk in the Burger King and see if I can get some ice.
7:37am Aurelia en el Burger King me esta dando desalluno. Te lo agradesco, Aurelia. Todo el mundo recibe credito.
8:03am I'm done with my breakfast at the onramp. I'm going to start thumbing it. Ahh, I am only ten miles away from King City. I'm going to walk it.
8:09am Turning left on El Camino Real going South.
I came to the bus stop. If the driver doesn't give me a courtesy ride I will walk it. It's more like twelve miles, I was told. I've got a breakfast croissant sandwich for when I rest.
The driver pulled up and said they didn't usually give courtesy rides. I told him to just gave me one now and he said no. I called him a good little slave. He was taken aback and asserted that he was not a slave. None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free! I was just testing you!
8:48am Passing Tyler Avenue on the Camino Real. Passing Ventana High School.
I am walking in front of Greenfield High School, GHS. I just tagged this sign in front of it with havethisbook.com.
8:58am I am on the highway now. I don't see any pedestrians prohibited signs so I'm going to walk it.
9:30am I stopped and ate my breakfast and took a resin hit.
9:36am Up and at 'em, walking.
9:41am King City 10 miles, Paso Robles 61, LA 294.
10:03am Passing Lagomarsino Road.
10:13am I'm going to stop and rest. I've been walking on the opposite side of the road facing traffic so I can give them the peace sign. I'm going to cross back and sit down so I can thumb it while I smoke.
10:30am Leaving. I stopped and rested right where the sign says Hobson Avenue a ¼ mile.
I just found a Power Bar on the ground again! 110 calories. It's a little bit open, but I'll still eat it.
Coming up on Teague Avenue. Brian James Teague.
In my story after I say I get hooked up at taquerias be sure to say that Mexicans are a lot more ready for world peace than Americans. They know the rules. Path of least resistance.
11:03am I'm taking a break half an hour early to layer down, but oh well.
I changed my mind about stopping. It was more like a layer down pause.
11:12am Okay, now I'll rest.
11:30am Up and at 'em, walking.
When a cop stops me for walking on the 101 I have my lines ready for them. I'll tell him, "I am walking the historic Camino Real, just like the settlers did. You know what camino means, don't you officer?
11:57am Coming up on Central Avenue. I see a tree with a sign that says peace.
12:23pm I took a picture of the Camino Real bell.
12:59pm Guess what, everybody. I see signs that say, "Mission San Antonio and San Antonio Lake, next right." Hmm. I have to follow that sign. Even if it's 23 miles away.
1:21pm Walking.
1:25pm I'm walking down Jolon Road. Mission San Antonio is 23 miles down. I'm going to try and thumb it. Please Love, take me to San Antonio. I'm on a mission to the mission. I want to go there and tell them, "I'm Victor Antonio from San Antonio. I want to tell you about my mission."
On this walk I've seen all these signs that say the road coming up in ¼ mile. I have already passed Broadway and Central Avenue and there was nothing there, so I didn't think this next one would be any different. Lo and behold I saw gas stations signs and golden arches around the corner. I'm not too hungry right now. I am grateful for that Power Bar I found earlier.
I got bored on the onramp thumbing it trying to get to the mission. I'm going to walk up the hill right here. Maybe there's another gas station nearby.
Wow, there's a gas station at the top of the hill. Called that. I'm going to ask for rides here.
2:20pm I gave up on my mission to San Antonio. Nobody is giving me a ride and this one guy told me I had to go through a military base and get searched, so forget it. I should walk into King City. I asked the cool Mexican dude if there was a trail into town or something. He told me about a bike path I could walk.
I walked the path until it got to some street.
2:55pm Coming up on San Antonio Drive. I'm going to walk that street for some special reason.
2:59pm Welcome to King City, Victor. Patty at the Denny's is going to feed the peace machine.
I got bored at the gas station by the highway. I'm going to walk San Antonio Drive.
5:25pm I came to in front of the King City Shoppette store. I walked San Antonio all the way to Broadway. I'm going to hit up this taqueria.
5:32pm Sweet, I got hooked up at Lugarcito Michoacana. I logged their generosity and gave them my website.
Downtown
It's about time I made another update. I ended up walking in a big circle and I am back by the Denny's again.
5:55pm I forgot to tell you, I already found my camp. It started to get dark and cold so I went looking while I still had daylight.
I'm glad I found a good spot before it got dark. There should be enough time to scrape my weed-tin. I've got a flashlight.
It sucks, I broke my quartz cigarette one-hitter today. I was trying to show it that cool Mexican cashier at Jolon Road and it fell and broke. I can still use it though. It's just shorter now.
I'm crashing out.
