King City to San Miguel to San Luis Obispo, CA

Saturday March 21, 2009

I woke up at about three thirty this morning and got about seven hours of sleep.

8:40am  I had another nice relaxing morning at my camp down here. I have all my stuff loaded up. I'm going to smoke a cigarette. I wish I had more weed. I took my last hit this morning. I scraped my little tin.

8:47am  Up and at 'em. I took pictures after I smoked my snipe. Last night the condensation got my wallet and soaked all my little havethisbook.coms. So I had some projects. I needed to cut out more.  Left no trace, except for my wet and ID and websites.  Looking uplooking down.

I sat down and wrote out another sign. On my way to save the world.

10:10am  I came to the gas station and saw some guy who saw me yesterday. He asked me if I had ever made it to the mission. He said he would drive by later and give me some weed.

10:29am  Carlos walked by and asked about my website. In the end he gave me a little nugget! Thanks for helping me live this dream.

What a blessed morning so far. I got more weed! I had just run out, remember?

                     See! Everybody smokes!

10:32am  Don is being nice enough to give me a cigarette at the ARCO. I apprciate it, Don. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

11:02am  The guy who had seen me yesterday told me there was a truckstop about a mile away, so that's where I'm walking.

11:07am  The greedy asses at KFC won't hook me up. I walked in and they just blatantly ignored me.

I am all stoned walking 101 to the truck stop.

Let the waving commense. Peace sign to every single car.

11:15am  I'm going to hit up the Carl's Jr.

The greedy asses in the Carl's Jr. won't give me food. Everybody gets credit! I told her I was just testing her anyway. I told her, "It's okay, you don't have to want world peace too."

11:27am  I have hereby donned my clown wig.

Oh yeah, while I was filling up my CamelBak with ice at the ARCO this dude walked in and asked me, "Are you the backpacker?" I told him affirmative. He offered to give me ride, but he was going North. "That's cool. Thought that counts. Check out my website though." He came inside looking for me because he saw the WPTMJ on my pack.

I started walking 101 again and a highway patrolman stopped quick. He was a little pricky. When he pulled over and walked up I told him there was something about the forbidden that makes it strangely desirable, hehe.

I doubled-backed a little to the Shell station. I had passed it up on purpose because it seemed dead. The cop told me I could walk the road parallel to the highway to get to the rumored truckstop. I took a smokebreak at the Shell and asked the girl permission to ask for rides and was denied.

11:52am  Walking. I'm going to walk the mile to the truckstop.

12:04am  I am only 77 miles from San Luis Obispo. I am thinking about walking all the way there.

12:17pm  Walking up to Wild Horse Road. Hmm, I'm going to go hit up the Wild Horse Cafe.

Katie at the Wild Horse Cafe is feeding the peace machine. I really appreciate it, sister. Everybody gets credit.

12:59pm  I am leaving from the Valero at Wild Horse Road. I am only six miles away from the next gas station. Six miles to San Lucas. Another saint. I should go check that out.

1:06pm  Miguel me esta dando un ride a San Miguel. Te lo agradesco. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.

Whoa, I was at the Chevron in San Miguel. This beautiful blond girl who I'd given my website earlier to walks up and offers me a ride to the mission. I told her I had already seen it, but she said I would have much better chances getting a ride from the onramp by the mission. She's giving me a ride there.

Whoa, in not time, like five minutes after the pretty blond girl dropped me off, I didn't get her name, Patrick pulled over and he's giving me a ride all the way to San Luis! Awesome, bro. Thanks for mobilizing me.

4:02pm  I am in San Luis Obispo already! Sweet! I got dropped off at the Chevron on Monterey Street. Santa Rosa Street is like four lights down.

4:25pm  I walked Santa Rosa to Mill Street, turning right. I remember this shortcut to Peach Street. I'm going to go see how the garden is growing and say hi to Andrew.

Ah, I walked back to the house on Peach Street and Andrew is gone to Chicago. The garden had barely evolved at all. I was quite disappointed. Geoff and his girl were there outside and said hello. I thought maybe I'd get hosted at the house again, but I won't even ask. I'm going to see if I can get a courtesy ride to the shelter.

There's no night service on the bus, so I'm going to walk all the way to the shelter. I'm going to stop in the Mac store and check my email.

It might rain, so I was wondering where I'd crash. This one homebum gave me directions to some place called the Jack House, that I could crash under the back porch. He said some other guy would be crashed there too. It's on Marsh Street. Close to Nipomo and Marsh.

8:27pm  It's about time I made an update. I went to Higuera and hung out. I was a little hungry and bummed because I missed the last bus to the shelter. I met this other homeless dude Mexican Dave who lives in his camper. I don't know what's Mexican about him. He offered to smoke me out so we walked to where his camper was parked and smoked inside. He warned me it smelled like shit because of he hadn't dumped his sewage. It wasn't that bad. I'm going to go back to Higuera Street and pass out my website.

Matt hooked me up with a cigarette on Higuera. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

8:52pm  I had an awesome presentation right now. Right when I got to Higuera I gave the first guy walking up my website. I told him if he had time I could tell him my story and tell him what I was doing. He had to go, but he just came back and asked me, "Okay, what's your story?" I told this dude the whole Odyssey with Note From the Rich and everything.

I walked all the way to camp.

Next day..
