Laytonville to Willits to Mendocino, back to Laytonville, CA

Monday May 21, 2007

9:17am  We just got dropped off on 101. It's awesome how we got a place to crash last night. Scott had built the house himself. They had a fire pit and like forty acres. There driveway is a mile of dirt road going up a cliff. It's cool to get to his house.

9:35am  In no time, well, actually, the police stopped and ran our IDs. They just bitched at us to get off the pavement. Five minutes later Linda pulled over for us. She's giving us a ride to Willits. I appreciate it, Linda. Everybody gets credit.

9:51am  Whoa, Linda just volunteered me a twenty dollar bill! We're getting some breakfast.

9:58am  We came to this health food store in Willits. Me and Airi. The Mariposa Market Natural Foods. They have this bulletin board here. All the empty tacks I found, I pinned one of my little papers with havethisbook.com on it. There's havethisbook.coms everywhere. Hell yeah.

10:23am  I went inside the Mariposa to ask where the library was. I need to check my email real bad. I came outside and all of a sudden this guy walks by and says, "You look like you need a ride to the library." Ripley is hooking me up with a ride to the library. Thanks a lot.

Whoa, Ripley just volunteered me some bud! He said, "Oh, you're writing a book on generosity? I gotta hook you guys up."

11:11am  Oh, I didn't tell you. About twenty minutes ago I split up with Airi. I noticed she was getting frustrated, so I told her, "We can split up, if you want." Right when did, she got a ride. How perfect. This is a solo-mission, after all. I need to be by myself. Unless I could find another devotee somewhere who could keep up with me. I had even told her when we first took off from Arcata, "Hey, if you ever feel uncomfortable with me, flying my sign and stuff, just let me know. If you think I am a detriment to you getting where you need to go, please just let me know. No hard feelings. I have work to do." We split up and everything's cool. I am still going to go to Mendocino, to the beach. To the town of Mendocino. She told me to go there. I'll probably see her there.

11:53am  In no time, I was flying my WPTMJ sign and Dillon and Fletcher pulled over for me and are giving me a ride to the coast. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

12:08am  Man, I love the rush I feel when I am in transit. I'm getting a ride to the coast in this bitchin' 95 Camaro. Dillon and Fletcher are giving me a ride. I'm telling them my story. Cool.

12:52am  I just got dropped off in Mendocino.

1:02pm  Man, I wonder where all the kids are in this town. This seems like a rich, snooty town. I'm going to aim for the beach. Maybe there'll be somebody there to tell my story to.

1:13pm  I didn't find any kids at the beach. I walked back around to this organic coffee bar and saw they had internet access. Oh shit, I need to check my email. See if my webpage is up still. Hopefully Kali got it paid for me. Awesome, this is exactly where I needed to go. Check my email. I have four dollars, cool.

1:27pm  Just spent a quick ten minutes on the computer. Kali emailed me. She mailed me some stuff to Arcata. I am going back to Arcata. There's nobody to tell my story to in this town. Everybody is all ignorant and rich. I wonder where Highway 20 is. I'm going to go ask around where it is.

1:59pm  I stopped and rested in the shade. I was asking people where there were tennis courts in this town, because I needed a new one for my stick. This one lady told me that the tennis center was a couple miles away, then this one lady, right before I got to the shade, she was walking he dog, she told me it wasn't there anymore. I'm going to walk there anyway. Hopefully there'll be some tennis balls around.

Oh yeah, it sucks. I lost my backpack cover. I left it at that house Airi and I crashed at last night. I forgot the guy's name and everything.

2:31pm  Man, I have so much weed it's not even funny. I'm taking a long ass smokebreak. I am so happy right now. With the exception of a tennis ball, I have everything I could want right now. Well, except for world peace too. I have plenty of recording medium. Umm, I'm going to need batteries pretty soon. Triple A's.

2:41pm  I walked for a lot more than two miles and I didn't see a place where tennis courts could have been. I passed by a sign pointing to Woodlands Kennel. I thought, "Man, where there's dogs there are tennis balls." I'm going to ask them if they can hook me up. I hope it's not that far.

2:44pm  Nobody was at the kennel. There was this guy working on a building with hammer and nails. I told him my dilemma. He told me I could probably go to the tennis courts. I told him how I never found the courts. He went, "Oh, that's right. They took them out." That one lady was right. He said it was an empty lot now with a for sale sign on it. Hopefully I'll find it on the way back.

3:37pm  I was out there and in no time Emilio and Joe picked a brother up. I appreciate it. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

4:00pm  About fifteen minutes ago I got dropped off at, thirty three miles away from 101. I'm here on 20. In front of this big ship-building place, Van Peters Boat Works, flying my sign. Hopefully I can get a ride. It'd be cool if I could make it back to Arcata tonight.

4:09pm  Paul stopped and read my sign. He's only going five miles to a campsite, but what the hell. Every little bit helps.

5:14pm  I am on my way to Willits. I traded him some marijuana for a ride all the way to Willits. I appreciate it.

5:22pm  I am back in Willits. Right before I got dropped off I saw a Mexican restaurant. I'm going to go eat.

5:27pm  Carlos, en Taqueria El Bravo en Willits me esta dando comida. Te lo agradezco, senor. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.

5:34pm  Hell yeah, I got hooked up at the taqueria! Carlos hooked me up. Hell yeah. He didn't understand me when I asked. He just said, "You don't have any money and you're hungry?" He hooked me up fat. I walked to the end of town. I'm going to stick my thumb out. Going North. 101.

6:12pm  In no time, Kat was nice enough to pull over for me. She's going to take me to Laytonville. I appreciate it, Kat.

Next day..
