Boulder to Nederland and back, CO

Monday August 16, 2004

11:32am  I woke up at around ten. Nicolas, Keith, Elijah and I are going to Ned's today. It's cool, I can get my fossil back.

12:00pm  We stopped at the Co-op on 19th and Pearl. I refilled my Nalgene with water for thirteen cents. I got a little sample to eat from this lady outside. She wanted me to fill out some survey. I told her I was on the run and if I could have one anyway. She hesitated at first, but then changed her mind and said I could have one. She gave me one.

12:37pm  We just drove up to mile marker 38 in Nederland. We're going to walk to the camp now.

12:53pm  I got my fossil back!

12:57pm  We came to Nederland, to the camp. Jacob gave me a cigarette and Red gave me some snacks. He's going to make some ravioli. I appreciate it, brothers. Everybody gets credit.

1:43pm  I took a picture of the spring.

Elijah by the fire in Nederland.

2:44pm  I am back at the house. Back at Circle A Ranch. Another view of pit in back.

Yet another picture of the stage.

12:03am  Umm, I went to bed. Oh yeah, I worked my ass off today. When we got back home from Ned's I got on the filling-in-the-potholes-in-the-driveway project. I was digging up dirt in the back pit and putting it in a big cart. I was taking ten paint bucket's worth of dirt at a time to the driveway and filling in all the potholes. I worked my ass off. Afterwards, I got smoked out. Then, I sat down and worked on my webpage. Oh yeah, I emailed freespeech.org. When I was on the bus from Denver I told this kid my story and he told me about freespeech.org. I sent them a big long email. I hope that's productive. I sent it to like three guys who work there. One of them should read it. Check it out:

Free Speech TV,

Hello, I am traveling now on a magical journey. I don't plan my
destinations. I just follow signs and let things happen. Tuesday,
August 3 I was just sitting on the sidewalk in the mall in Denver. I
was bored and taking a break from telling people my story. All of a
sudden, I see a bus pass by that said "Be Boulder Bound" on
it. Bam, that was my sign. The next morning I went to the bus
station and asked the guy how much a bus ticket to Boulder was. He
told me $3.75. I proceeded to tell him about my mission through the
little speaker thing on the glass. Without having to ask him he
hands me a free bus ticket to Boulder. I was meant to come here. On
the bus to Boulder I hit some kid up for my story and when I finish
he tells me about Free Speech TV. That is why I am writing you
today. I must follow my signs.
I discovered the Pearl Street Mall and immediately started
saturating people with my legend. I go up to random strangers and
ask them, "Can I tell you a really interesting story? I'm not
asking for anything. I just want you to listen. It's a free
story." I've been doing this for about 3 years now. I am just
watering my seed. Anyway, on the second night I was wondering where
I could squat and I ask these street kids if they knew of a place.
They invited me to this awesome camp in Nederland.
The Nederland camp was amazing. These kids had a kitchen with a
stove they built and everything. They call it the Anti-Aggro Youth
Cafe,

I think. On the second day these guys from Food not Bombs
showed up. I was telling them I needed a haircut and they invited me
over to the FNB house in Boulder. The Circle A Ranch on Arapahoe. I
was totally meant to come here too. Not only do they have a computer
upstairs that I've been busy assembling my webpage on, but they also
have a stage in the backyard and open-mic night on Thursdays.
Perfection.
I have been at Circle A since then. I agreed to do work-trade
and they are letting me stay here for two weeks. I have until next
Sunday.
So, I am in Boulder now. When I am not working at the house I
ride the bus down to Pearl to tell people my story and collect email
addresses. I have over 6,000 right now. I have been hard at work
for years now. There are so many people out there waiting for me to
follow-through and contact them.
On that note, let me tell you my story.

*I told them my platform.*

Okay, Free Speech TV. Get back to me if you'd like to help me work some magic. If not, I will work it on my own, just like I have been all this time. Trust me, that story was just the tip of the iceberg.

Next day..
