Thursday September 3, 2009

5:12am  I woke up about five minutes ago. Eight hours of sleep, that's great. I feel great. I was pretty sore from hiking. I don't know when we're leaving today, but it's a beautiful day today.

                   Pretty lake pictures

8:05am  I woke up early this morning and I found some place to take a shit at. I walked back to camp and everybody was still sleeping. I noticed that some other campers had arrived on the other side of the lake. I was bored so I decided I was going to hike over there and say hi to them and see if I can tell them my story. I did just that and to my delight right before the email part they asked me if I wanted to hit their Sobe bottle. Why sure, that will bring the story to life.
John, Bryson and Chris, are the other campers on the other side of the lake. I took their picture. They had agreed to listen to the whole Odyssey, but I cut it short.

That was awesome that I got to tell those dudes my story. Oh yeah, they told me there was another lake really closeby, Upper Steven's. I want to go find it.

8:34pm  I haven't been able to make too many entries. My tape recorder was messing up. The playback didn't work. We just got back to their house in Mullan at 3:30pm. Earlier after I told those three dudes my story I walked all the way back to our camp on the other side of the lake. The guys had woken up and even had some hot chocolate going. We caught another fish. I caught one when the rod almost got pulled into the lake. I jumped on it. Birch trout, little trout. They were taking their time packing up from the camp so I told them I would just meet them on the other side of the lake. I was trying to find an upper trail back to the other side. Alas, I didn't find a trail so I had to step over all the trees and bushes for a long time. The whole time Nanook, Rob's dog was following me. When I eventually got to the other side of the lake the guy's were nowhere to be found. I was blowing my whistle loud. It took me like a whole hour to get through the trees without a trail, so I assumed they had taken off towards the car. Nanook and I started back. I stopped at that waterfall because I was out of water and smoked a cigarette. A couple times I thought I saw some footprints in the direction I was going to I assumed it was them and I was on their trail. They left me a marker. They leaned a twig up against this perfectly balanced log and wrote with a pen an arrow. When I was getting closer to the car I heard voices. Nanook was with me the whole time and I knew Rob wasn't going to leave the dog. We had an awesome time camping. It was magical. I have to look up Steven's Lake on the internet. We didn't go to Upper Stevens, but next time. What an awesome adventure I happened into in Mullan. I was warned about Mullan, but I have fun everywhere I go. I asked them if I could have a recuperating day at the house and then I would be Missoula-bound tomorrow. I am glad my tape recorder isn't completely broken. I can still hear the playback with my earphones. Signing off.

I have to recapitulate all these great blessing I've received at this house. They've given me all this survival gear, a camp candle, a carabineer that I really needed and right now I just got gifted this awesome London Fog trench coat by Cody. I took a picture of it with him wearing it. He told me I should try it on and I said, "I better not, I might fall in love with it." I tried it on and he told me to keep it. Hell yeah, I am ready for the winter now.

Next day..
