Mullan to Lookout Pass, ID to Missoula, MT

Friday September 4, 2009

7:36am  I haven't made any entries today. I woke up around five thirty or so on the couch. I'm about to leave. Cody just woke up and hopefully we'll smoke a bowl. Cody gave me a badass trench coat last night. I'm going to see how much my pack weighs right now with their footscale. 43lbs for my external frame.

8:21am  We're taking off. We're going to Cody's work where the pass is. Hopefully I'll get a ride to Missoula today.

8:28am  We came to the gas station in Mullan and I filled up my bag with ice. I was here for like what, four or five days? Oh yeah, at the gas station I found a tennis ball in the back! We're driving to the pass now.

9:01am  They drove me to the ski resort Cody works at at Lookout Pass, right on the Idaho/Montana border. I'm going to go see if they have any hot water so I can make some Ramen. Man, I was totally blessed in Mullan. Cody even hooked me up with a smokeless sneak-a-toke without the cap with a nugget inside it. I'll probably extract the weed out of it and use my one-hitter to conserve.

9:34am  About ten minutes ago I came to the onramp. Well, not the onramp, the side of the highway in front of the ski resort.

10:08am  I got bored of hitchhiking. I'm going to see if I can find Cody and ask him if he can take me to St. Regis after he gets off of work. I see a sign that says Montana Welcome Center at St. Regis. I like rest areas.

10:58am  I had an awesome presentation with Vanessa who works here at Lookout Pass ski resort. She totally listened to my whole Odyssey and everyhing. Note from the rich and even the lizard's song. Oh yeah, and then Kayla hooked me up with a sandwich for the cause. I appreciate it.

12:49pm  I should make an update. I went back to the ski resort. It's all dead. There aren't that many people here. When I walked up to the front I saw some girl who worked there and asked her if Cody was around. She told me he was up on top of the mountain and wasn't sure when he would return, but that Katie was up there. Katie lives in the same house as Cody. I went upstairs and said hi to Katie and asked her if she knew where Cody was. She wasn't sure when he'd be coming down, but she asked me if I needed anything. I told her not really, unless she could give me some gasoline for my stomach. She made me a sandwich. I had eaten a Ramen but burned that off waiting for someone to give me a ride and nobody never did. Then this other cool looking girl walked in and told me she liked my shirt. I gave her my website. Oh yeah, I found out that there is a rest stop only five miles away. I can walk that. Then I wondered if I could get my friends to give me a five mile hop. Katie ends up getting off early, pretty soon. I'm going to wait for Chris to come and get her and ask him if he'll give me a ride to the rest area.

1:35pm  I just got dropped off at the Silver Dollar Casino and truck stop. How perfect. Those kids from Mullan totally supported the cause. Chris showed up and picked up Katie. I had even told Katie my head injuries story while we waited for him. I'm going to layer down now and take my tights off.

1:58pm  I came to the onramp.

I should've really had him drop me off at the rest area, but he offered to take me all the way to the truckstop. At the rest area all the traffic would be going East. Here it's all dead and there's barely any traffic.

I'll just stand in front of the restaurant and show my shirt off and try to tell people my story. Right when I walked back from the onramp I saw what I thought was a Greyhound bus but it ended up being a tourbus. These dudes walking to it commented on me. I didn't get their names but I gave them my website.

2:17pm  I stayed on the onramp for a little bit but no cars stopped for me. I figured I would walk a little so I can thumb highway traffic. I walked to the first shady spot and I'm going to thumb it here.

2:46pm  I got tired of thumbing it. I came back to the Silver Dollar. I'll take a ride either way. East, or West back to the rest area.

I forgot to tell you, I am in Montana already. The ski resort was right at the border.

3:59pm  David just volunteered me his last dollar. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.

4:25pm  Luis y Claudia me dieron un dolar. Todo el mundo reciben credito, gracias.

                   Sweet, four bucks already.

4:43pm  Sweet, a trucker is giving me a ride!

4:45pm  Tom is the name of the trucker who is being nice enough to give me a ride. He's going to take me to Missoula!

Tom is going all the way to Chicago. That is really tempting, but I have to stop in Missoula. Everybody has told me to go there.

6:20pm  I am in Missoula at the truck stop! I think it's like three or four miles into town. I'm going to go inside the truckstop and ask them if there's a bus that comes out here. I've got four dollars so I'll buy some food and walk the four miles.

I tried telling Tom my story, but he cut me off after the marijuana part and told me I was barking up the wrong tree. He was very adamant that people would not work for free. Right before we parted I told him, "Next time you think people won't work for free just remember how much you charged me for that ride, the crackers you gave me and the cigarette you wanted me to have even though I had my own."

6:46pm  I came to the stopsign right across the street from Phil's 2nd Hand. I'm going to walk into town now. I'm walking on the side facing traffic so I can give the cars the peace sign.

7:15pm  Mile Marker 3. Whoa, the moon is fucking huge.

7:30pm  Ha, the trucker had told me I would get a ride into town no problem. I was just walking and Mario who was coming the other way saw me and turned around and he's giving me a ride into town. I appreciate it, Mario. He's wearing a PDX shirt. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.

7:44pm  Welcome to Missoula, I just got a ride. I walked a little more than a mile and Mario saw me. I most likely gave him the peace sign because he turned around to give me a ride into town. He didn't want to listen to my story though. He told me it was impossible to go hungry in this town. There's bumfeeds everywhere.

8:54pm  I came downtown and Hope is being nice enough to smoke a brother out. Welcome to Missoula, Victor.

9:26pm  I am busting out with my breast exams sign here in Missoula! Hell yeah, I'm going to be famous. Everybody is cracking up.

10:06pm  What an awesome time I've having. I'm telling my story and making people laugh like crazy. I am getting the best reactions. Three guys just came up to me and told me, "That's badass, that's badass and that's badass." They were talking about my shirt, my Thank You For Pot Smoking patch on my pack and my breast exams sign.

People are telling me to keep up the good work. I'm having the best presentations tonight.

11:39pm  Crafty just came up to me and volunteered me some quarters.

11:45pm  I met this cute girl Virginia. She listened to all of my stories. She actually requested my head injuries story. She's crashing in the basement of her mom's house and won't let me come over. I thought I would be able to crash at the Walmart, walk over there and crash. I think it's far away though. Right now we walked to the Oxford Cafe and Bar. Some guy inside saw me and asked me where I was coming from today. I'm bad at remembering the name of the town but I told him Mulan, Mullan. He said, "I saw you in Mullan!" I gave him my website.

Ha, earlier this guy thought I was selling my stuff. He noticed my quality gear and assumed I was selling it. Screw that, this is my gear.

2:10am  I am crashing out. I found a place in this park. Virginia had told me about some island she knew homeless people crashed at, but I have to walk over this log to get to it, so forget that. I don't want to fall in the water. I looked around and found a concealed spot. I don't care if I get woken up by cops.

Next day..
