Butte to Bozeman, MT
Saturday September 26, 2009
5:48am I should make an update already. I woke up at four in the morning with about six hours of sleep. It got a little chilly last night. I need to get a thermometer so I can tell you how cold it is. I got in my sleeping bag liner and I'm all cozy warm. I'm all stoned. I waked and baked. I'm going to go on a snipe hunt and then come back here. I'll raid some ashtrays and then come back. Maybe I'll just wait for the sun to come up. I love this little candle lantern I got from Rob and Cody in Mullan, Idaho.
5:58am I'm going to chill at my camp behind this building a little more. I'm out of tobacco. I'm going to walk to the Conoco closeby and raid the ashtrays. I took pictures of my camp.
6:07am I have returned to my camp behind the building.
My run-over backpack
7:54am I must've dozed off again. I have come to a major decision. I've decided I'm going back to San Antonio. Screw the clockwise tour I've been planning. I've been gone for almost a year now and I really miss my mom and my hometown. I'll shoot back up and finish off the East Coast half of my tour in the Spring. I have to follow the birds.
8:45am I'm hungry and I have no food. I'm going to pack up and go get food somehow.
9:37am I've been up from my camp for a while. I crossed to the other side of the highway to the Conoco here and took a shit in the bathroom and layered down and got into uniform.
Welcome to Butte, rich hill
9:53am I came to the onramp.
11:02am I sat down and wrote a sign out to try and help me get a ride. WE ARE ALL CONNECTED.
11:35am Brian stopped to give me a ride, but he's going back to Helena. Sweet, he volunteered me a burger! I appreciate it, brother. Thought that counts on the ride.
I was hungry and didn't know what I was going to do for food. I was about to give up on the onramp and was about to walk into town and try and manifest some food somehow. I just got food. Nice! The universe provides. I was hungry.
12:30pm I've been trying to hitchhike all morning long. That nice guy hooked me up with a Wendy's burger so I had some more time on the onramp. Dino, this other homeless dude who had asked me for a dollar last night walked up to me on the onramp. He came up and was wanting to hitchhike East too. He had a bus ticket from Butte to Bozeman, which is where I want to go. He said he was in a hurry to leave and would rather hitchhike since the bus ticket said 1:30am. The bus ticket was about three months old. He offered it to me and I gladly accepted it, even if I did have to wait until 1:30am. I could just go into town and tell my story until then.
Walking into town and passing that building I crashed next to last night.
John's
1:15pm I walked to the bus station in town and sure enough, that ticket was good. Greyhound tickets are good for a year. Dumbass who gave me the ticket thought that he had to wait until 1:30am. The ticket was like three months old. Anyway, I came to the bus station and the next bus going East leaves at 6pm tonight! Awesome.
I came outside the Greyhound station to look for someone to tell my story to. I dug through the ashtrays and got some tobacco to smoke. Some guy saw my shirt and commented on it. I'm telling him my story right now. Before I told him my story he mentioned how pretty soon he was going to do some ceremonies, like sweatlodges and stuff. I smiled and told him, "I've got a story for you."
I had an awesome presentation with Jackson. He told me he was glad to hear me out.
1:30pm Sweet, Jackson just hooked me up with some cigarettes, badass.
1:54pm Man, I am having the greatest time. I have a good charge from telling my story. The sun's out and I feel great. I'm going to be going to Bozeman at 6:15pm. I don't know what I'm going to do about food until then. Maybe I'll just wait to get to Bozeman and find me a taqueria.
3:47pm Sweet, getting hooked up at Taco John's. I had just come in to get some ice, but I hit them up and I'm getting hooked up. When I first came in I could hear the kids working in the back saying, "Did you see that guy's shirt?" They were all talking about my shirt, sweet.
3:48pm The nice people at Taco John's are hooking me up with some food. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit, thanks.
4:15pm The nice kids at the Taco John's hooked me up. It's real windy today and my hat is flying off. I ate, smoked a cigarette and took a resin hit. I'm going to walk back to the bus station now.
4:43pm I'm reading my book inside until the bus comes. I'm going to go see if I can find me a pretty girl to tell my story to.
Billings bus
6:22pm The bus came and I just got on. We still have half an hour before it leaves. I'm reading this Dean Koontz book I picked up at the God's Love shelter in Helena. It's called Sole Survivor.
8:39pm I am in Bozeman. I'm going to go look for a campspot.
8:47pm I just got off the bus in Bozeman and Brandon at the Exxon is being nice enough to volunteer me three cigarettes. I appreciate it, bro. He saw me digging through the ashtray.
I'm going to hit up Burger Bob's.
Manager's not there. Yeah right. It was connected with a bar so I knew my chances had gone down.
I'll hit up the Dominos for mistakes.
9:36pm Will at Papa John's is hooking me up with some pizza. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit.
9:55pm I should make an update. I walked like a mile into town, not that far from where the bus dropped me off. I walked downtown and I hit up the Bob's and the manager wasn't there. The cool guy inside accepted my webpage. Papa John's, I used to work for Papa John's, they hooked me up. He gave me a whole pizza. Well, it was missing two slices, but that's alright. I've got a full belly. I walked down some other road. I'm behind Cat's Paw Brady's Steak House and Casino. I'm going to look for a camp in this field behind here.
I'm scared to camp out in the grass because I'll get scabies or something.
10:00pm I put my floor down in a little depression out here.
