                                                                           Whitewater to Paddock Springs, WI

Saturday October 27, 2007

12:20pm  I'm leaving. Rob is giving me a ride to the gas station. I'm going to get out of town. Highway twelve all the way to Chicago.

12:52pm  Rob dropped me off at the Eastsider Citgo. I asked permission from these pretty twin girl cashiers. At first they said okay, but eventually told me I could ask. They were nice about it, though. I got to tell them my story. It got busy, so I just gave them my website. I'm going to walk to the next gas station.

1:02pm  I walked a couple blocks to the Mobil. I asked permission in there to ask for rides and they told me no. I think it's like twenty miles to the next gas station. I'm going to stand across the street from the Mobil and fly my WPTMJ sign and try and get a ride.

1:23pm  I got a courtesy ride from Officer Oliver. I was thumbing people with my marijuana sign for like five minutes and somebody called the cops on me. They told the cops that my sign said, "Will work for marijuana." When he saw what my sign really said he said, "There's nothing wrong with that." He's being nice enough to give me a courtesy ride a little bit closer to Highway 12. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

1:28pm  I just got dropped off on Sweno Road and 12 by Officer Oliver. He was a real nice guy. He's been a policeman for sixteen years, I think he said. He didn't give me any grief at all. He didn't search me or nothing. He just had a huge smile on his face. Someone told him I was holding a sign that said will work for marijuana. That's so much bullshit. Ignorance is bliss.

2:05pm  I took a long smokebreak. I sat down. This trooper stopped and told me to make sure I walk on the opposite side of the road facing traffic. That's what I'm doing.

2:40pm  I'm going to stop and take my first rest on this walk. At 6217 US-12.

2:54pm  I took about a ten minute smokebreak. I'm walking again.

The speed limit is forty five here. Reduced speed limit. I'm on the opposite side of the road again.

2:56pm  I'm about to walk into the town of La Grange. Unincorporated.

3:18pm  Coming up on sign that says Tamarack Road.

3:32pm  I am up from my break. I stopped in front of some cemetery at the top of the hill where cars could see me hoping someone would pick me up, but nobody did. I'm going to hop back over and keep walking on the opposite side. Since I'm walking on the other side of the road the only thing left for me to do is wave at cars as they pass me. Every single one. Peace sign, peace sign, peace sign. I took another hit of weed and I'm walking now. I sacrificed my badass gloves that I used to move the shingles(8-23-07, 7:22pm). Their clip broke and they came off my bag. I really should've held on to them. I like to shed sometimes.

                   Crossing Tamarack Road.

3:48pm  Passing that says Elkhorn 12 miles, Lake Geneva 19. I have to switch out my tennis ball and take a leak.

3:59pm  I am up from my smokebreak. I'm going to keep walking. Twelve miles to the next town. Elkhorn.

I keep waving at cars. Every single one.

                   Approaching Highway 12.

I have realized that in waving the peace sign to all these cars, I am, in essence charging up my Karma Slingshot. Once I get it pulled back far enough, bam, I'm going to get a ride.

Isn't that a cool analogy? My Karma-Slingshot, hehe. I'm all stoned.

4:34pm  I passed by this house, Ceder Bend Produce. I thought to myself, "That would be cool if I could score some fruit." I walked up and asked this guy if they had any produce for sale. "We just closed," he told me. He told me he had some squash. He ended up hooking me up with three apples, awesome. I'm glad I stopped there.

I left a little paper with my webpage in their mailbox.

4:35pm  Man, lo and behold, looks like my Karma-Slingshot was ready to be fired, with all the peace signs I was giving every car. Ethan

was nice enough to pull over for me. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

4:58pm  Ethan just dropped me off in Lake Geneva. I appreciate it, brother. He gave me some change.

     5:08pm  Matt,

the cashier at the Mobil in Lake Geneva, hooked me up with some food that they were going to throw away. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

I'm counting all my pennies on the table.

5:42pm  Remember that big bag of change I had that John gave me in Madison? Well, I remembered I had it. I sat down at a table and started counting it out. All of a sudden the dude who works here Matt asks me, "Hey, do you want some food?" He gave me like four Tornados! They were damn-good. I ate them all. So I don't have to buy me a snack anymore. I was going to with the pennies. I was sitting there counting out my change and this lady walks by and hooks me up with two dollars! I didn't get to log her generosity, but she knows who she is. I bought me a pack of cigarettes and that chocolate cream pie that I wanted. I got two bucks in my wallet now.

I am trying to tell this Matt kid my story. In between customers, of course.

6:29pm  937-HLC. I just took a picture of Satan and his girlfriend.

I saw him and immediately asked him if I could take his picture.

6:33pm  The generous soul of Tina is helping me out with a ride closer to Chicago. I appreciate it, Tina. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

6:56pm  I just got dropped off in Paddock Springs on Highway 50. No, Paddock Lake. Tina, this nice lady gave me a ride. I am at the BP gas station here.

     6:57pm  45 degrees. It's not that bad.

7:28pm  About to pass a sign that says Kenosha 11 miles. Highway 94 7 miles.

7:42pm  I never told you. About fifteen minutes ago I found a place to crash. It's on the side of the road next to this tree. I'll take a picture in the morning.

                   Full moon

Next day..
