El Centro, CA to Yuma, AZ

Monday November 1, 2004

5:55am  Man, it's awesome how it's all light outside. It's all five and the sun's up. Oh yeah, I had a good morning. I woke up in little trailer on the couch. I thought I would have to find a camp near the truckstop last night. Oh, and Chris gave me all those new layers I needed and five dollars. I just woke up now and I talked to Sean, the guy who's property Chris' trailer is on, if he could spare some weed and gave me a little bit for my one-hitter.

Oh yeah, and Sean gave me a delicious chunk of smoked fish. He had left some smoking in his smoker all night. That fish was real good. It's gourmet stuff.

We're off. Chris is giving me a ride back to the truckstop.

6:57am  Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. Chris brought me back to his truckstop. I'm asking people for rides. Man, I got my gear all decked out. Chris gave me an awesome new traveling-blanket. Like it rolls up and has these straps that hold it that I can hook to the side of my backpack. It's got like a little harness for it.

Oh and I got some new layers.

8:23am  I never mentioned. The compass on my stick is dying. I asked them if there was a Walmart in El Centro and there is. So, I'm asking people for rides to the Walmart from the truckstop. Nobody was giving me one. Then, all of a sudden, some guy I had asked earlier inside pulled up and said, "Hey man, I'll give you a ride." I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

8:37am  What was your name dude. Doug this guy who is responsible for this magical ride I got at the truckstop, umm. We came all the way to Walmart and I told him, "Yeah, I need to go buy a compass." He went, "Oh, you need a compass?" He points to the ceiling by the windshield and he already has the exact thing I need! I noticed in the Walmart parking lot and I now find out that he had one in his car already. If I would've noticed at the truckstop I wouldn't have needed to come to the Walmart. Anyway, now he's giving me a ride a bit East into Arizona. I miss San Antonio.

8:57am  Oh man, what a magical time. I'm truckstop-hopping. I just got dropped off at Millie's Kitchen, this truckstop over here in El Centro. Highway 8 is pretty closeby. Oh yeah, that was so awesome how that dude had a compass in his truck! We were in the Walmart parking lot and I told him I needed to buy a compass and he pointed at it and said, "Like this?" It was the exact thing I needed. That was cool! Now I'm at this truckstop. I wonder if I'll get a ride.

Hopefully, all the way to Texas.

Oh, I'm at the Imperial 8 Travel Center.

11:39am  I just got ran out of the Imperial 8. Laters. I asked the general manager, this one guy and he told me, "You can't be hitchhiking here, leave." I said, "Okay, but can I tell you what I'm doing?" He said, "No, you can't be hitchhiking here." I told him, "I understand. I'll stop. I just want to tell you what I'm doing. It's a really interesting story." He said no again.

                     I don't care, there's gas stations everywhere.

11:56am  I walked over to the freeway entrance of East 8. At first I saw a city bus and thought, "Oh shit, I'll ride the bus as far East as I can." Then I realized I was on the East Side of town already. I came to the freeway ramp. Nobody was picking me up, then I saw a Greyhound bus. Oh shit, there's a bus station here. I've got twelve dollars. I'm going to see how much a ticket is. Perfect.

12:00pm  I went into the Chevron and asked the guy how to get to the bus station. It's not far at all. Like a half a mile down the street to State Street, turn left and like three blocks down.

12:07pm  We're going to stop at the Salvation Army thriftstore. I want to see if they have any shirts that mean something.

They didn't hook me up at the thriftstore. They said I had to go to the main office a mile away.

Oh, forget it. I didn't really need those pants anyway. I was going to ask them if they could hook me up with these pants.

I'm here at the Greyhound station. Let's see how far East I can get on twelve dollars.

Okay, a ticket to Yuma is $16.50. I have nine dollars. I need 4.50, no I mean, I need 7.50.

12:36pm  Joey just came up to me at the bar and he gave me a cigarette. I appreciate it, brother.

12:47pm  Kim is giving me some change for my bus ticket. I appreciate it, Kim. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

                      I'm having some good presentations.

12:48pm  Victor, un otro Victor, le estoy diciendo mi historia, y me dio un jugo. Te lo agradezco, señor. Todo em mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

Victor me esta dando un chocolate. Gracias, gracias.

12:50pm  Ismael walked by and picked up Victor's trash. He appreciates it, Ismael. Everybody gets credit.

12:53pm  Cual es tu nobre, otra vez? Salvador me dio un dolar para mi boleto. Te lo agrdesco, Salvador. Todo el mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

12:58pm  Rick Rodriguez hooked me up with change for my bus ticket. He yelled, "East Side of El Centro!" I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

1:114pm  Lisa is hooking me up with some change for my bus ticket. Almost there. Almost there.

12:57pm  I'm out here talking to Lisa and she's going to recommend me a book. What's it called again? It's called The Greatest Conspiracy on Earth,  Alright, I'll check that out.

Lisa: "He talks about the Bible and how it's a code for the Freemasons. And it talks about a character. This Satan character is not Satan. They're reptiles. They're shape-shifters.

                     Victor: "Yeah, they're Draconian."

What a great experience with this girl Lisa. She even started talking about the reptiles! It's so weird how other people know about it, too.

Now, before when I was hanging out with Lena and Barry in Oregon, I was kind of all paranoid and spooked after she told me about the Draconians. Shit, maybe I shouldn't be discussing them.

Screw it, I don't know if I ever even mentioned it. Lena Journeyhawk told me that there was an extraterrestrial Draconian race of reptilian shapelings. They can change into whatever. They're here on Earth trying to take over this world and making us kill ourselves. They're basically the government. You can never know who they are.

                     Everybody check that out too.

1:15pm  Andres me dio cambio para mi boleto de camion. Te lo agradezco, señor. Todo el mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

2:27pm  Joe hooked me up with some change for my bus ticket. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks

2:47pm  Oh yeah, the bus comes at eight tonight. I just bought my ticket. It was $16.50.

I'm going to try and score some Mexican food at Las Salsas.

2:48pm  They all told me, "Oh, the owner's not here." Greedy ass Mexicans. This is like the third one that's told me no.

I told them, "I was just testing you. You failed."

2:49pm  Yo estaba caminando y tenia hambre, buscando cigarillo y Ignacio me dio dos sandwiches. Te lo agradezco, hermano. Todo el mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

3:00pm  Emperial Valley Ministries. I had walked by this church and they gave me some sandwiches. I appreciate it guys. Thanks for proving me right. Peace out. Oh man, they're all hardcore bible-thumpers. They thump their bibles hard here. They were all Jesus this and Jesus that. I told them, in Spanish, "All I have to call it is love. Praise Love." We were eating tuna sandwiches. Before we ate, instead of thanking god, I should have led them in a prayer thanking the tuna we were eating for giving it's life so we may have ours. I think the tuna deserves the gratitude. "Gracias tuna, por dar tu vida para que yo tenga la mia."

3:02pm  I walked into Vallarta Bar and Tony me dio un cigaro. Te lo agradezco, Tony. Todo el mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

3:26pm  I sat down and smoked some weed. I'm up walking, now. I rested for a while. I'm walking in whatever direction. I'm walking down 5th. I just passed Broadway.

I'm going to find somebody to tell my story to. I'm stoned.

I turned left and I'm walking down, umm I saw there was some apartments. I went and looked around to see if there was a swimming pool with people hanging out outside I could talk to. These apartments ended up being El Centro Senior Villas. Old people. Forget it.

3:57pm  I came over to this park. What was the name of this park? The City Park over on 6th Street. Cliff hooked me up with a cigarette. This homeless dude out here. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

5:34pm  Oh yeah, I didn't tell you. I took a nap in the park. I just woke up. It's a little chilly. I went to the bathroom here and tagged it with Victor the Liberator with a peace sign.

Make sure to download Are You Going going to Go my Way by Lenny Kravitz. It says something like, "Though I'm not paid, I play this game and turn this planet back to one." I want to put that in my quotes.

Whoa, it's December 4th and I'm typing this up at my mom's house. That whole song by Lenny Kravitz should be in my soundtrack. It is exactly what I'm doing. Check it out:

    I was born long ago
I am the chosen I'm the one
I have come to save the day
    And I won't leave until I'm done
So that's why you've got to try
You got to breath and have some fun
Though I'm not paid I play this game
    And I won't stop until I'm done

But what I really want to know is
Are you going to go my way?
And I got to got to know

I don't know why we always cry
This we must leave and get undone
    We must engage and rearrange
And turn this planet back to one
So tell me why we got to die
And kill each other one by one
We've got to love and rub-a-dub
We've got to dance and be in love

But what I really want to know is
Are you going to go my way?
And I got to got to know

Are you going to go my way?
'Cause baby I got to know
    Yeah

6:44pm  Estaban me dio un cigaro al frent del Greyhound. Te la agradezco, señor. Todo el mundo recibe crédito, gracias.

6:59pm  Charlie, I didn't ask him, came up and offered me some food. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks. At the Greyhound station.

8:00pm  Sammy, some other guy just sitting there asked me, "Hey, do you want a drink?" He gave me a dollar. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

8:06pm  I'm on the Greyhound bus. We're going to go. It's awesome, just at the last minute that guy hooked me up with a burrito and then some other guy gave me a dollar so I could buy a drink. Oh yeah, some guy working at the Greyhound got all pissed off at me when he saw that guy handing me a dollar. He came up to me and asked me all pissed, "Do you have your ticket." I told him, "Yeah, I didn't ask for anything. He volunteered it." I'm on the bus now. We're going to go to Yuma. 1½ hours. I'm thinking about going to sleep, but I won't.

I wonder if there's anyone on the bus I can tell my story to.

10:12pm  I'm in Yuma, Arizona now. I layered up and I'm going to find a place to sleep now.

Next day..
