Dallas to Austin to San Marcos to San Antonio, TX
Tuesday November 20, 2007
2:00am I am in Dallas.
4:58am I got a little sleep and I woke up when we stopped in Killeen. I hopped off the bus and bummed a cigarette off this kid wearing an Amsterdamn shirt. I took a hit of weed.
6:11am Austin. Got off the bus and took another hit.
7:03am San Marcos.
8:44am I totally forgot. I'm back home! I located my pack and I have everything. I thought I might take a nap in Travis Park, but I think I'm going to start walking it. I layered down at the park.
9:18am Hell yeah, Cristan's
got my back!
9:55am I got hooked up with two bean and cheese at Cristan's. I took a picture. Look what it says on the window, hehe. I loaded up and took off walking the 91 route. I stopped at University Street to take some vitamins and drink some Riovida. I lost my water bottle, so I was sure to drink a lot of water at Cristan's.
10:37am I walked up Fredericksburg non-stop past Woodlawn and I see a new taqueria, El Campesino, I think. I went in there wearing my bags and got hooked up. The cute waitress gave me her name, but I forgot it.
10:59am It was cool, after I ate at The Campesino I walked to the Valero nearby to try and bum an after-meal smoke. I asked this guy packing a brand new pack, but he said no, that they were his girlfriend's. I told him thanks anyway and he offered me the rest of the cigarette he was smoking. I stood there for a minute and he eventually called me over and gave me a whole one. I go inside the Valero to ask for matches. This guy gets in line behind me and comments on my gear, "That's exactly how I looked in Europe." The cashier, this girl Deanna who knew me from Travis Park. The guy asked me if I had any weed and Deanna answers for me, "Yes, he does." Hehe, I told the guy I'd smoke him out, but he declined stating, "I need to get a job." Anyway, he ended up buying my a lighter and giving me some change. So I came and sat down at a bus bench to smoke my cigarette. Oh yeah, I picked up an empty water bottle off the ground.
12:57pm About fifteen minutes ago I got to University Hospital. I walked non-stop from the bus stop at the Valero on Fredericksburg. Tons of people in cars were staring at me on this walk. Oh yeah, I stopped in the plasma place to take a piss and say hi to everyone. Elva told me, "Hi, Victor." From there I walked Fred Road over 410, past Callaghan and cut through The Oak Hills County Club, the Dental School at UTHSC and I got to the transfer center at University Hospital. I am just here for a smokebreak. I am not going to ride a bus. I am going to walk all the way home. I'll stop at PK and walk down Bandera. I just smoked the last hit of my weed. I'm resting my shoulders, then I'll take off again. When I first walked up this black girl said, "Hey, there's the weed-man!" I talked to her for a minute. Gave her my website.
2:45pm I stopped at the Valero on Bandera which used to be the RaceTrak back in the day, right before Eckhert. The dude who had bought me the lighter earlier had given me some change too. I bought some Pop Tarts. Then I asked Justin, the cashier if he had a spare cigarette and he gave me a box with seven cigarettes! Cool. My shoulders ache. I can't believe I'm actually going to do this. Everyone is going to know I am back.
4:02pm I just walked all the way to the Church's close to my mom's. I cannot believe I am half a mile away from my mom's house! I am going to end up doing it in six hours, my usual downtown walking time without forty pounds on my back. I so rule. I could have caught the bus anywhere and my mom would have loved to come get me. But no, I'm a long-distance walker, damnit. And I want everyone in town to know I am still at it. I got recognized a lot, random honks here and there. Right when I walked up to the Church's some dude comes out and tells me, "AK wants for you to wait here for him. He went to go get ice. He saw you walking." Awesome, I hope I get some free food, even though I'm sure my mom will feed me good too. I deserve it. I just hiked twenty miles with forty pounds on my back. I am training hardcore. Training for the apocolypse, hehe. I have blown past basic training and I didn't have to sign my life away! FUCK THE SYSTEM!
