Monterey to Watsonville to Santa Cruz to San Jose, CA
Thursday April 16, 2009
I woke up at 4:30am in this field. I'll take pictures of where I crashed when I pack everything up.
7:30am Man, my old tape recorder is working again! The one that I bought in Berkeley that I only kept for playback because it wouldn't record again. It's so awesome because the other recorder I was using, it stopped working. So I am still recording. This morning I woke up and the highway is right around the corner so I didn't walk that far. I'm on the onramp right now thumbing it. I ate some breakfast Laura hooked me up with last night. I saw the bus to Watsonville pass, so I'm going to go stand at the bus stop and wait for it to come again. Hopefully the same bus driver who saw me hitchhiking will give me a courtesy ride.
Me in window reflection, zoom in, intersection
7:52am I came to the corner of Valanda and Main Street, at the bus stop here. I'm standing up and letting all the cars see my shirt, all the traffic here. I'll take a picture.
8:12am The greedy ass driver driving the 29 wouldn't give me a ride for $1.10. It's two fifty. "No, I can't do that. They're watching me." That's right, be afraid you good little slave. Some Mexican dude. Hehe, I'm going to fly my SUPPORT THE CAUSE sign to traffic right here at Varanda and Main Street. I had just been standing there letting cars see my shirt killing time for the bus to come. Now I'm going to fly my sign. I was getting great smiles and waves and honks.
8:17am I am about to have my first police contact real quick since I left SLO. This cop saw me and is turning around. I don't know what he's going to do. I got a permit, bitch.
The lady sheriff didn't tell me shit, she just kept on, pursuing to the next block.
Some Mexican dude just gave me four bucks! I've got my bus fare already, but I'm going to stay here a little longer. The cops already drove by and I gave them the peace sign and they waved back at me.
8:44am Hell yeah, right now some guy in line in traffic asked me, "Hey, are you accepting donations or are you just doing this because?" I told him how I accepted donations, I just didn't expect them. I like surprises. He smiled and handed me two bucks and told me he had never seen anyone doing this before. Hell yeah. I'm the chosen, I'm the one.
9:10am On the bus to Watsonville.
I ended up having like eight bucks in cash. I could've paid bus fare last time. I had another dollar in my wallet and I hadn't realized it. That greedy ass probably wouldn't have let it slide for forty cents anyway. I'm going to Watsonville now.
9:52am I just landed at the Watsonville Transfer Center. I'm waiting for the 71 to Santa Cruz and I'll get to San Jose from there.
11:17am Paul just volunteered me an orange on the bus. I appreciate it, Paul. Everybody gets credit, thanks.
11:40am Juliet en el Dandy taqueria en Santa Cruz me esta dando comida. Te lo agradesco, Juliet. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.
11:48am I just scored at the taco place at the bus terminal here in Santa Cruz and people in Santa Cruz are real tight. Juliet was all in Spanish, "Are you doing this for God??" I told her no, for love. She didn't like that too much. She's stuck on God. I swear, it's the world's greatest hoax. All we need is love. Religion is division! Everybody has it in them and it's all the same love. PRAISE LOVE!
12:05pm Leaving on the bus to San Jose. Somebody threw up in the back seat.
12:25pm We stopped and switched buses.
1:15pm I am in San Jose. I need to get the free shuttle to the MLK library and go check my email.
1:25pm I just got off in front of the library.
4:32pm I attempted to take a nap[3-11-09:1:00pm] on a bench in Cesar Chavez Park, but I couldn't. I'm all loaded up and I'm going to go back to the library and see if Olivia has emailed me back.
6:32pm Amos just volunteered me a whole pack of cigarettes. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.
Amos is a custodian, I think. He was cleaning up in front of the library. I went outside to bum a cigarette and he noticed and offered me a pack he had just found. Amos doesn't smoke. That's very generous of you, brother. Thanks a lot.
8:11pm I am leaving the library. Nobody has recognized me in San Jose yet at all. I'm going to go catch the light rail to Santa Teresa again and camp in my field like last time.
Be sure to download They Became What They Beheld by Edmund Snow, Carpenter.
Monika! I'll put a link[3-5-09:3:00pm] to her from last time, she walked up and chatted with me for a long time. We talked about sex. She's into girls, just like me.
9:10pm I ended up getting on the wrong train. I got off at Paseo de San Antonio. I'm going to ride the train to Santa Teresa, not Winchester. Oh yeah, Monika had told me that I had made her think a lot, that I opened her eyes, she said. She said that she can tell the difference between they ignorant and the awake now. I told her that was music to my ears.
9:55pm I am in Santa Teresa.
10:23pm I came to the Carl's Jr. and nice Miriam who hooked me up last time, she gave me some food again. I didn't recognize her at first so I gave her my line. She told me she remembered me from last time and hooked me up again. I distinctly remember not giving her my line last time. I had just asked her if I could have some free food[3-5-09].
10:54pm I walked all the way to the Carl's Jr and Miriam hooked me up again! She gave me a lot more food this time. Some fish strips, I think and burritos. I've got a happy belly. I'm going to sleep great. Awesome, thank you so much, Miriam.
