Comfort to Kerrville, TX

Friday June 4, 2004

3:44am  I just woke up in the fireworks stand. This truck was making all this noise. I slept fine. I just woke up for some reason. I probably didn't get enough sleep. I'm going to go inside in the McDonald's and take a shit. I've got two dollars so I'm going to buy some breakfast.

4:00am  I went and took a shit. The McDonald's isn't open yet. I came back to the fireworks stand. I need more sleep. Not really. My feet don't feel bad, but it's still dark and I can't start walking.

5:37am  I just woke up again in the fireworks stand. I wonder if the McDonald's is open yet. I'm hungry.

6:02am  John here at the Chevron hooked me up with some mints. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

6:29am  James hooked me up with an after-meal smoke. I appreciate it, James. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

6:42am  I am taking off walking. Did my Tai Chi stretches and I'm off.

7:00am  Passing Kerr County Line. Mile marker 522.

7:10am  Passing sign that says Cypress Creek Road 1 mile.

7:15am  Mile marker 521. Fifteen minute mile.

7:32am  Mile marker 520. Seventeen minute mile.

7:40am  I rested and I'm up walking again. Fifteen miles back to Kerrville.

7:57am  Mile marker 519. Seventeen minute mile.

8:15am  Mile marker 518. Eighteen minute mile. I'm going to sit down and rest.

     8:20am  Done resting and walking.

Please Love, have some generous soul pick me up. Please. I'd appreciate it. Well, I guess it's not necessary. I can always walk it. It would just help a lot and I think I deserve it.

8:44am  Mile marker 517. That was bad time on that mile. I'm tired. That was after I rested for ten minutes too.

     8:46am  Leaving marker 517.

9:05am  Mile marker 516. Hallelujah. Rest area 2 miles.

Next rest area after that 123 miles. Screw that. I'm going to sit and rest.

     9:15am  I'm walking again.

9:34am  Marker 515. One more mile to the rest stop.

     9:39am  Crossing Cypress Creek.

9:50am  Passing sign that says Rest Area Next Right.

9:54am  Mile marker 514. The rest area is right here. Perfect, I'm tired.

9:57am  I've been to this rest stop before(12-26-02). I was here last time on the way to California. I remember this place.

10:11am  Bob hooked me up with a cigarette at the rest stop. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

10:22am  I just rewound my tape and counted. I walked a little bit over eight miles since seven this morning.

10:28am  I'm up walking from the rest stop. I wasn't going to ask for rides because there was this guy cleaning and he had a radio. I'm not that far.

I calculated. It said Kerrville was sixteen miles from Comfort, from where I woke up. I walked eight miles so I've got eight more to go.

     10:44am  Marker 513.

11:03am  Marker 512. I'm going to rest underneath this tree.

11:15am  I am leaving from my rest.

     11:37am  Marker 511.

11:40am  Entering Kerrville City Limits! I can't believe I walked to Kerrville!

Like I always say. All I need is a destination. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait.

11:56am  Marker 510. I'm going to walk under this bridge and rest under there. I'm tired.

12:17pm  I'm out from under the bridge. I'm going to keep walking to Kerrville. Next two exits.

I'm almost through with my Muscleblast 2000. I took a shot of it at the rest stop. I had two sausage burritos this morning at McDonald's and two shots of Muscleblast 2000.

12:36pm  I don't think I told you. I just passed a mile marker. 509. I passed it like two or three minutes ago.

I am now looking at the town of Kerrville. Ugh, there's a big evil Lowe's Warehouse. All these restaurants. There's a Cracker Barrel.

12:50pm  There's a Subway. I'm going to go see if I can score some food. I'm hungry.

Holy shit, I just turned around and saw a sign that says, "San Antonio 63." I've been far.

I asked directions to the Folk Fest. It's down that way by Louis Hays Park.

1:20pm  I gave up at the Subway. I was waiting for there not to be anybody in line, but people just kept coming. Forget it. I'm going to score somewhere else.

I'm going to go in this place called KJ's and see if they hook me up there.

This girl just told me, "Oh, the manager's not here right now." I told her, "Don't worry about it. Thanks anyway." She was pretty.

Lemme try at the Cracker Barrel.

1:32pm  Cracker Barrel is hooking me up. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

Cool, got a soup and three biscuits at the Cracker Barrel. I'm going to walk into the information center here and get a map.

I am eleven miles from the Folk Festival. Somebody better give me a ride.

2:05pm  Jackie is hooking me up with a ride to Folk Fest! From the Diamond Shamrock. I appreciate it, Jackie.

2:37pm  I just got dropped off at the festival! I'm going to walk around and make some friends. Get smoked out.

2:42pm  I had gotten dropped off at the festival and Sweeney hooked me up with a free ticket for tonight. Awesome. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

3:18pm  I just took a shower! It's cool that they have showers here. I've got my Willie Nelson shirt on now.

4:11pm  David hooked me up with a rollie here at the Kerrville Folk Fest. Some guy playing guitar. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

5:09pm  Bob, after hearing my story hooked me up with five dollars so I could get my entry bracelet. I appreciate it, brother(watchforbob@yahoo.com).  He told me not to put his email address in my book.

I wandered up to Chapel Hill, where they had a big group of people listening. I ended up being the last person. They were picking names out of a hat. There were like people playing guitar. I asked the guy, "Hey, do you have to play an instrument?" He told me no. I got up there and gave my presentation. I was stupid. I cut right into my odyssey story and didn't tell them about my email addresses and that "I'm going to bring the truth out of hiding and educate the masses." I can't believe I got to say my whole odyssey though. This one girl told me, "I really enjoyed your story."

5:47pm  Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that the bracelet I'm wearing will only let me in until noon tomorrow. They all told me, "Welcome home," when I got here.

                   Man, I'm not home.

                   Home is free.

All these wannabe hippies who after the festival go straight back home and keep selling out and going to work. Driving their lazy death machines. Killing the world. Umm, I don't know if I should even stay tonight.

Oh yeah, I figured a different route back home if I decide to go home. I learned that Bandera Road(Hwy 16) hits I10 at Kerrville. I'll just go back home that way. My mom's house in San Antonio is real close to Bandera Road.

Right now I came back to the place where I told my story to smoke a cigarette.

7:39pm  Oh, I just wanted to mention I'm having a really cool time. My day turned out great. I ran into these kids, Dean, Josh-man, and Clint. They smoked me out. I appreciate it, guys.

Sweet! He's giving me a whole pack of smokes!

8:11pm  The greatest thing. This random guy just came up to us and asked us, "Have you eaten?" We told him no and he goes, "Would you like to?"

8:12pm  John is hooking us up with food! He came over to use and asked us, "Hey, have you guys eaten?" John and Francie. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

8:37pm  Man, I'm having a magical time. That guy John hooked me up like crazy. I told him my story and got his email address. It's going to happen soon.

9:27pm  I had a pretty good presentation. What was your name again? I had a good conversation with Nick by his tent. I'm telling him my story. People are listening. What's up, Daniel?

10:45pm  I have to remember to thank that girl Jenna at the Walmart for giving me this destination(4-9-04, 9:42pm). This place is exactly where I needed to go. This place is just magical. I am having all these great presentations. People are listening to me like crazy. I'm bringing it. I'm bringing it. I really am.

Oh yeah, and I made these friends. All these cool kids that smoked me out. I really hope I don't lose where they are. I'm sure I'll find their campsite again. I'm just walking around now.

10:54pm  I'm talking to Brian and Phoebe. They're listening to my story. They hooked me up with some meat. Some gasoline for my stomach. I appreciate it, guys. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

11:32pm  I am exhausted is what I am. I walked a lot today. I'd really just like to go to sleep, but I don't know where. I can't seem to find those cool guys who hooked me up.

11:38pm  I ran into these two dudes who saw me at Marleyfest. They told me, "Hey, what's up, man. We saw you at Marleyfest. You told us about the internet and stuff." I told them, "That's right. I am still working on it."

I am known. I was really meant to come here today.

1:15am  I went and found me a place to crash at Chapel Hill. The place where I had my presentation earlier. I just laid down on a wooden bench. I had walked all day long, like fifteen miles. But now I just woke up and it started raining.

3:55am  I'm going to crash out again at the same place I slept earlier.

Next day..
