Roseburg to Sutherland to Eugene, OR
Wednesday June 17, 2009
11:02am I haven't made any updates today. I only got five hours of sleep last night. I can never get any sleep here because the radio is always blasting. I was on the computer all morning. I thought I was going to leave when I woke up but I found something to do. I accidentally compromised one of the pictures on my front page, the one with me and the clown wig holding my WPTMJ sign in front of Ingram Mall(from 12-9-07). I accidentally saved it before it finished loading and saved wrong. First, I was on hold forever with Dot 5 Hosting tech support and they hung up on me. Then I was on hold forever chatting with the online technician. I tried chatting with three different techs and was finally told they had to send me issue to a higher level tech and that I would get notified via email. The internet is all screwed up here anyway and I am giving up and getting out of here. I really totally appreciate these guys at the house. Josh, Flossy, Philosophy, his name is Brian, I think. I have been trying to take a group picture of everyone before I leave but they keep stalling. They're all worried that their landlord is going to come and kick them out. The walls are covered with marker. I even tagged my website with WPTMJ on it. I'm going to try to hitchhike to Eugene today and see what happens.

I'm going to go hit up Los Dos Amigos on Main Street and see what they tell me.
1:12pm Veronica en Los Dos Amigos en Roseburg, Oregon me esta dando comida. Te lo agradesco, Maria. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.
1:18pm Score, called that. Taquerias are the path of least resistance. Sientate, mijo.
1:31pm Cole at the Express Mart hooked me up with a cigarette. I appreciate it, bro. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.
1:37pm Remember when I said before I got to Roseburg that my feet were hurting, they were killing me[6-13-09 : 9:57am]. Right when I got into town I made a prayer to LOVE, "I need some time off of my feet, hopefully typing on a computer." Bam! The next day I got it. Thank you, LOVE! Thank you, LOVE!
1:44pm I am on the onramp already. I got here about five minutes ago.
2:09pm Before I know it Mike pulls over for me. I appreciate it, brother. How far are you going? To Sutherland, closer to Eugene, cool.
2:22pm That was awesome how in no-time I got a ride. I was on the onramp thinking man, I'm fuckin' bored. If two 'o clock comes around and I don't get a ride I'm going to walk to the highway and thumb it to all the traffic. I started walking towards it and all of a sudden Mike pulls over for me! He was driving on the highway and saw me. He wasn't on the onramp. Perfect timing. Mike is an underwater welder. He has a very intricate tattoo of a shark on his right forearm. At first I asked him if he was from San Jose.
2:38pm I am already in Sutherland. What a blessed day so far. I got hooked up with food at the Mexican restaurant, I got a ride in like fifteen minutes. It was only forty miles, but every little bit helps.
2:40pm Gerard just gave me a cigarette at the Pilot truckstop. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.
2:57pm Dude, I was walking to the onramp to thumb it. I was passing up all these truck drivers at the Pilot. I asked this one if he was going North and Andrew is giving me a ride. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.
3:48pm I just got dropped off in Eugene! Well, off the highway by the Willamette River. I have to double back a bit.
Andrew is from the Philippines. I didn't tell him my story at all. He told me I was the first person he's given a ride to. I had asked him if he was going North and he said he was. I asked him for a ride and he asked, "You don't have a gun, do you?" I smiled and showed him the peace tattoo on the back of my neck. He told me I was the first person and that he just wanted to help me. I told him I was honored.
That's not the first time that I'm the first person people give a ride to.
3:58pm I walked back on the highway to the Willamette River bridge. I noticed there was a paved walking path and I assumed it went into town. It was a tedious climb down because my bag is so heavy. Oh yeah, I now also know of a bridge to crash underneath if I need it. I saw a couple homebums under the bridge. I'm walking this walking trail to Eugene now.
I am not sure which way to go on the path. There's something that says Austin Stadium, one mile. Springfield is the other way. It's not that far. Maybe I should walk to Springfield and ride the bus to Eugene. I'm tired. I want a cigarette. I'll probably take a nap somewhere too.

4:30pm I forgot to tell you. I was walking down the walking path and I ended up walking the wrong way. I asked some guy on a bike if I was going the right way to Eugene and he told me it was the opposite way.
I'm walking the South Bank Path. Turn right towards Eugene. The other way would go to Glenwood.
6:12pm I just woke up at my attempt at a nap. 091gear.JPG, 092nap.JPG
6:28pm All loaded up and leaving. I'm going to walk into town. I'm a little more rested. I scored a little catnap. At least now I know a spot where I can walk back to and crash. If I'm not that far.

6:59pm I walked to Agate Street. I'm going to walk through the college campus and look for tennis courts. I just cut my last tennis ball right now.

7:28pm I only got a total of five balls. Three in the trashcans at the outdoor courts and two at the indoor ones.
7:45pm Leaving the University of Oregon with five balls. Whoa, I should've known. Right across the street there is a Mexican restaurant. Muchos Gracias. I'm going to go score. Andrew gave me a six inch Subway sandwich earlier and I ate it before I took a nap. When I woke up I was hungry. Now I'm going to get some more food, watch.
7:53pm Jose en Muchas Gracias me esta dando comida. Te lo agradesco, Jose. Todo el mundo recibe credito, gracias.
7:55pm Sweet, called that. It's an old Burger King. I'll take a picture of it.
8:18pm Duke was nice enough to give me a cigarette. I just walked to downtown. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit. Welcome to Eugene, Victor Antonio. 097show.JPG, 098crowd.JPG
8:25pm Not only did I get hooked up with a burrito, but I walked to the plaza downtown and ran into Brittney, this cute girl with dreadlocks that I met in Ashland.
8:30pm Cobiah hooked Brittney and me up with a cigarette. We appreciate it, bro. Everybody gets credit.
8:40pm Brittney and I are on a marijuana mission at Lincoln and 7th. We saw these kids in front of the Chevron, all these hippies and they're going to smoke us out.
9:58pm Winter was nice enough to give me a cigarette in Downtown Eugene. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, man.
10:02pm Whoa, I just got recognized! This guy remembered me from Berkeley. I'm everywhere, I'm everywhere.
10:17pm I forgot to tell you. See, I've been pretty lucky with taquerias lately. On the walk into town I passed by Burrito Boy and it said 24 hours on it, so me and Brittney walked to it. I hit them up but the dude gave me the old manager's not here bullshit. Pizza Hut is close too. I saw that on the way over here too.
10:55pm Adam was nice enough to give me two cigarettes outside of the McDonald's. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, man. Thanks a lot.
Directions to Sundance. "It's in South Eugene, if you go down Patterson and stay on it until you hit 24th. It's on 24th and Hilliard. Go there and at eleven they'll give out whatever they have left over. It's good food, organic."
10:38pm Man, we were hitting everybody up. We walked by this other Mexican restaurant/bar. The nice girl working there told me that they were a bar after ten, but she told me about some natural foods store that gives out stuff at eleven. We'll be right on time. Then we'll walk back to Skinner's Butte and camp.
11:00pm We got here about five minutes ago. It was a good hike. We're waiting outside now for them to see if they have anything out of date they can give us.
11:07pm Mckenna here at Sundance Natural Foods is hooking us up with some food. I appreciate it, Mckenna. Everybody gets credit. Thanks a lot.
11:45pm Me and my friend Brittney walked over to Skinner's Butte. We didn't even go in the butte. We just crashed behind this tall grass by the street. I let Brittney use my big tarp. We're going to crash out for the night. Nobody can see us at all. Goodnight, everybody. Tomorrow will be another blessed day.
